Going Mobile
I keep trying to find a way to use my Back macBook laptop for entries.... I bought one with the idea of travel ( which, if i don't get the full callout for Les Miz - I'm on the show run. But, the setup calls haven't been posted for me to dispatch. I'll have to move my vacation to NYC to July or August )
So, I thought. As it's slow. I'd try to get used to it. Thinking that there might be more open thoughts, inside my head - out in the world. But I find typing on a lap top extremely uncomfortable. I hate just typing and correction work later. Which means I'm constantly backing up to correct my really bad spelling. Plus, people watching ( girl watching ) is too distracting.
I've been buying C.d.'s from new bands recently. Having to Listen to kids top 40 music that the instructors gave me to play during the house opening 1/2 hour all the last few weeks running lights for The Charlie Brown Musical. The kids themselves... I could tell for they're reaction to the teachers selection of music that it was all so last year...
So, browsing HMV. I chatted with some Dark-wave kid about what was worth listening to now. I wanted to hear what the kids I kind of identified as like me way back then, what they are into now. They're music sounded like a sort of industrial, Goth, 80's pop / punk mishmash. But, after buying the CD's, and listening to them on the drive home from the theatre after the shows. I know now why kids are downloading software versions of just the tunes they like, and disregarding the hardware.
The bands for the most part have one or 2 great songs and all the other tracks seem like demo throwaways. And I found this sort of sad. Because the chances of a new mega - band or artist coming out of the next generations music seems impossible. No album of summer. No more, "Nevermind", "Actung Baby", "Serious Moonlight, or "So"
But, maybe it's the listener.... Listening to the new music and hearing Depeche Mode, Bahaus and other bands being ripped off whole sale. I realize I'm so....Sonically old. I'm those musical theatre, school kids Dad's age. My ears are worn of so many rock concerts and seminal albums past.
Plus,my body isn't flushed with piles of brand new hormones. Constantly basting against my body, brain, and skin. While every other school day, living that soap opera of, Boy Meets Girl - Boy Loses Girl. Boy sees new Girl. Me, I girl-watch wistfully like an old man. I'm not feeling need or silent screaming greed for life, purpose and excitement that any current outsider kid feels. While stuck in a suffocating, soul crushing high-school experience, that feels never ending. And that life, fun.... parties and drinking are still mostly far out of my reach.
Really, when I think about it... most of the music and it's thoughts and feelings are like another persons, primitive developing language.
I can listen to the music... but I can't be in the moment of the music.

Sigh... it's hard to take things as seriously as you once did back when you were being perpetually basted in hormones (nice wording, btw!). Music just isn't the same... unless it's retro.
