G Vs. MA....
It's been a while...Work has been off and on. Of course with the recession spurious Live entertainment goes first. All the production companies in town are cutting back crews to save money before the end of the season for fear of not having the same budgets as other years, next season.
I've been branching out... Working on the Sky-train line, working late nights, taking down broken lighted signs and fixing them. I was re-accessed for my 2007 taxes. ( Here in Canada, the stimulus money comes from squeezing money from past years when citizens were doing good. ) Its kind of ghostly working on the tracks during the wee hours of the day. It's a real dirt job. But with all the rock shows not happening at The Coliseum ( due to olympic training ) It's filling the void for the season.
On a bright note. Our fellow friends at G.M. place decided to become IA. Which is helping sow up the town for union work. And when we end up in negotiations with wayward employers. They can't use the tired, " we'LL lock you out and hire your big non-union competitors " bark back when we propose significant changes.
Speaking of wayward employers... I guess I'll be working the regular summer Musical for May - July. The film industry is a bit still born this season due to the SAG strike. And the Opera is really small, little or no stage crew for Salome. With all the low employment numbers. Even getting my regular HE for the SUPERDogs-Show show at the PNE seems slim. This might be the year of E.I. and going to Burning Man for the summer. If the show season is now all going to be screwed up, due to the recession and the Winter Olympics.
I even tried dating... Chatted with a cute redhead on POF. We met and we're friends ( same old same old story...) But, at least she's old enough that when she says she wants to be friends it's not just some blow off. Plus, it's my first time back out in the field since forever. I'm so rusty at chatting up women... there's all thease nervous pauses that I think are... Well,I don't know that they mean anything... that's the problem. I can't gauge women anymore unless they're tipsy or I am.
That's why its fun to go to Sin City... It's all drunken flirting when it happens. Finally one of my Co-workers came out to Fetish night. He had a great time. And, as he was married he chatted up lots of women. It always works for them... never the single me. Women just seem to gravitate to taken guys. ( I kick myself tuesday morning quarter back style. Over all the women who showed interest in me when I wasn't single. As being faithful and monogamous while I was with Wendy turned out to be a fools game. ) I hope he joins me in may once our shows are up and running to try it again. I can watch and get pointers.
On a good note on all this lack of work... I've stepped up to the task of learning more lighting boards and getting back into programming and operations. Right now I'm Head Electrician on a studio musical / drama for teens, out in Richmond while I get comfortable behind a lighting board again. Plus, making myself available for choice AE gigs that need a second programmer. And I've been looking at what kind of programming knowledge it takes to make iPhone Applications, maybe as a side / home gig.
It's all about how you roll in this economy....

Hi friend! Looks like you've been keeping busy. Any chance you can get Olympics related employment?
