Opening Night...
Some opening nights I do well. When I'm with a huge crew of guys and I'm socially adapted at making new friends. But, in a new venue ( for me...) and working a show where I'm really their due to a contractual situation.
This show could have operated without a HP person. But, it makes up for all the times I've been run off my feet as a deck electrician for the Opera and the major musicals in the big house. So I guess I should thank the union for the gig when things are a bit tight...
Except for the Cultural Olympiad shows happening here in town there's very few touring acts coming through Vancouver. ( due to the economic situation in the USA ) And now that U2 have possibly put their tour on hold. Who knows what this summer will be like. I feel for the NASCO crews in town. As they're venues are the slowest and stuffed with the flailing Canucks.
I just feel more comfortable in a large crew ( or, when I was on tour ) were there's a gang mentality. It takes a lot more self-assurance to be an army of one, or few versus being in an army of guys. So, at tonight's opening I was very socially autistic.
And it didn't help matters to find out that my stage crush is married. I thought the huge rock on her finger was a character dressing prop. As she referred to it often, and jokingly as being massive. But, she was wearing it out of costume as well, I noticed today.
It's always the married ones who flirt with me... But, I sensed that.... So I'm just going to enjoy it for that. She even gave me a friendly ass tap before the show went up... I love older women. They can be so much more playful. I think she thinks I'm alot younger than her. And if it gets me attention... I'll enjoy that too.
