Spinning Wheels...
So there's a chance that we will be building an entirely new stage for the Madonna concert at B.C. place....Still, Vancouver times haven't come yet for the Production show calls or the Steel calls. And we just yesterday heard word of a separate steel call out in some parking lot to build portions of a new stage....
All this waiting that bugs me. I'll probably have to change one of my calls to facilitate doing calling and then invoice the local for my time. Which is never as quick or forthcoming as a beautiful civic Theatre paycheck or one of the Independent Theatre checks.
Thank god I pre-called all the sister locals and permits on our lists to warn them in September of late October busy - ness regarding Madonna. Just put the bug in everyone's ear about lots of work, while finding out who's really still on our lists.
Every day I get more and more people calling about work availability and the list of qualified people is growing for a change. Hopefully they all will be able to work those dates. That way I can race down the list to fill the calls. Once they finally get to me and the other dispatcher.
On the plus side the local's shirt are on now the production line. It will be fun to give them out. I've wanted to get shirts done for the crew for a while. Hopefully, with the guys and girls in the shirts we can get a really good crew photo from Madonna show to put on the web site and maybe get it into the bulletin in NYC.
If the economy is turning bad we need to get the press out on us for more work as a group. We've been too complacent in my mind about the Olympics and the possible cultural work that year coming up. And now that's the only thing buoying this province, economically in the near future.
Also, I see some good futures for my sister In law, and my Roommate. She's quite relieved that all the stupidity with my Brother is over. I still haven't heard word one from him in Germany. And I expect not to.
My roommates gone out to the burbs to get clean from liquor. He was getting really down into it. And he just called up an agency and went for it. Like me he fears the winter blues ( me, I'm a workaholic... ) and he's spinning his wheels of late. Over which direction to take his life in. And he just realized that whiskey was getting in the way of that. Well done for him. He has way more drive when he's out there and on the wagon. He does comedy shows, takes the occasional work cal that I have. thinks about volunteering for VFS film shoots. He gets into the idea of being and actor and an artist. He needs to be clean. And he knows it.
Me?
It's funny, I went out the other night and thinking of him, I didn't want a beer. I sat there in the Railway Club after paying cover and realized that I have almost no courage speaking to people outside of theatre without having a drink... And that really bothered me. So, I bailed on the Psycho-billy show and headed out for a long walk around the city nightlife. As I walked around the city, I passed bar upon bar full of people who I guess can't get out of themselves without booze as well. Working my way back to Granville street and home.
Granville Street on the weekend is really the worst. Cop cars blocking off either end. The mess of paper Pizza pie plates and wet deposits of fresh vomit that you have to negotiate around. While avoiding tripping over the piles of homeless and spare change artists at every corner. Sadly, I detour off my own front street every weekend and most days if possible. It really a shame what this areas become. I can't wait for condo prices to do their drop. I'm out of here if I can get a reasonable mortgage. Even one street off this insanity would be nice.

I have almost stopped drinking. You can count the number of times I've been intoxicated this year on one hand. I didn't really think about it, it just kinda happened. That being said I got drunk this past weekend. I had a blast.
Thank you so much for the sweet comment on my blog.
