The Mexicans
One of the great things about our cities thrust of work before 2010 is the influx of Mexican workers. ( If your Lou Dobbs, I realize that your rolling in your sleep at the mere thought of welcoming foreign workers to your shores. ) But, we need better Mexican restaurants in this city. It's cornered the market on sushi shops, chinese restaurants and burger and pizza joints. I need a real burrito since visiting LA. And more Mexicans will make that a reality.
Yes , they're ( The young student Visa kids ) are for a bit, suppressing wages in some of the fringe industries. Maids, Nannies, Roofers etc. but we've always had student VISAs and guest worker VISAs. We've always had them because Canada has been for years, befrete with basic worker volume when we go through our sporadic, economic micro bursts. ( This time outside of America's depression )
And they're fun to hang with... with they're sporadic, and slightly embarrassing english. But, my Spanish is non existent so I'm often at a marvel as to how well they learn.
The girls.. oh the young gaggles of Mexican girls are so F 'ing cute. It's like chatting up hot East Indian girls without all the Hindi Bolly-wood princess crap that they elude. They are so much down to earth. The guys and girls are fun together as long as I don't try to flirt too much. But, up until now.. the guys alone... they all have for the most part acted like over stuffed, drunk, Chicano gang members. Knocking me in the guys can and reminded me too much of the guys I avoided in HS.
But, this night it was different. A bunch of Mexican roofers up here on the sly started asking me for pot. and then we got drinking and telling stories. ( As I'm older... my stories were better...) So we shared drinks for a while and I told them of all the places they should check out before heading back to Mexico City University for continued studies....
It was a fun night.. and it opened my eyes. Thease guys act all tough to begin with cause they're like all young student travellers.. A bit nieve. And, for the most partly a bit too scared of what they might get into....So they gang up
I can see that.... That's how I traveled when I was young... I was just with a band.

Out of my sixty employees fifty five are Mexican. Not student workers but as far as I know legal. We have to run there numbers and ID's before I can hire them. A hand full of them have become close friends of mine. A couple of years ago I actually drove down to Monterey to visit, it was a great trip . Definitely be careful with the flirting when there is a group, Hispanic men can be extremely jealous.
