OH Canada....
It's been pretty crazy out there....
This has to have been the most Jingoistic Canada Day I've seen. I've never seen so many Canadian Flags out in the streets ever. First up was the Fireworks. Right after Gypsy came down for the matinee I headed downtown to check out the scene.
It's a Zoo down on Vancouver on any long weekend. And usually I try to stay out of the fray. But, fueled by one of the Gypsy cast member's birthday Backstage ( Tessie, our tall Red Headed, ivory skinned burlesque dancer. Who, has the cutest laugh.... Among other things. ) I joined in, and sang and wandered with the crowd around Canada Place. Meeting up with Luis we went to Sanctuary and danced all night with all the industrial / Goth crowd til the wee hours. I tried to use Luis as my wing-man and attempt to chat up some cute girls.
But, it's funny... chatting with girls who dress in 80's style gear. Drunk as I was, I didn't really clue in that they were in their early twenties. Still I got names and accorded myself without bouncers being called. But, I have to admit it fuels my fears of being single and 40. Almost all the last 30's and 40's women I know feel, look and sound ( This is the most important thing SOUND ) So bitter and old. mean, they still look really cute in that lines around the eyes but still hot and in form. But, they sound like talking to my mom. One woman was obviously set up with some guy who never, ever went out with her or came to the club. And though she danced well , she was so distant as I talked to her while the techno band was striking and the DJ was setting up that i had to practically grab her and shake her ( With a " It's Canada Day here...Where is this great guy???!!!!" ) Why are you not out there with him and if your here on your own, what really are you doing!!!!????
Man, I thought I was pathetic..... This is definately a change... I'm not used to this. Women have up until now been the ones in the driver seat when it comes to me. I was nice with Tessie and gave her a gift for her birthday. And usually with Actresses and Stagehands it's kind of a left of normal push. A no no to pretend to be close of friends. But she was so thankful of my little gift of, "The Making Of - Gypsy " And on the card I even said that she was our Spot Crush ( The Girl you most like to light up with a spot - Tessie has the most incandescent white skin. She walks on stage and it's like the full moon in the middle of a perfect summer evening. Plus, she's a Redhead. Which has been my default attraction since Mrs. Strudwick was my 4th grade teacher, and first real adult person crush. )
It's different summer... I hope I can capitalize on this inside my heart. Take this as trust and have faith to be a lover again.....
