One of these days I'm going to get a camera so that you all will have visuals to go along with these stories. Hopefully that'll make them more interesting. Honestly, I get that for non-sailors my life during sailing season is a flat out bore. I spend so much of my time on the water that if you're not into it you'll find your eyelids lowering and your attention drifting. Nevertheless, to me it's a blast and my life revolves around sailing and the post sailing socializing. A buddy has a bar that's a little under a mile from my place and happens to be on the same metro line as the waterfront. If I can drag my ass out of water earlier than I usually do on the weekends, I'll metro down to the waterfront, grab a coffee and spend the day sailing/instructing. THen I can metro back and stop in at The Passenger. This is a great bar owned and run by two brothers who are seriously the best bartenders in DC.
I'm not kidding, If you want liquor they know it as well as anyone in town and can come up with something to fit your mood and elevate your palate. If you're every in DC check it out. Hanging out at the Passenger is a pleasure since the staff there is like an all-star team of talent and up and coming talent. Good crowd, no pretention (aside from a few of the other patrons who are riding the buzz) and they just added a pancetta BLT that is AWESOME. It's heirloom tomatoes and pancetta on a bed of arugala and pesto between two thick slices of grilled italian bread. mmmmmmmmmmmmm
Okay that's your ad for the day now back to the hormonal surge that is sailing (for me). Teaching sailing exposes me to a lot of people who are, by and large really nice. It's sort of diverse group that is now getting into sailing everyone from college kids to septagenarians. Yesterday was a case in point. I was doing a refresher/extra lesson for folks that have gone through our basic sailing course. I had two folks who were in the AARP range, a young asian american guy who was clearly military, and a younger european american woman from somewhere down south. The young woman was cute and wearing clothing that was pretty revealing. Of course, since I'm not dating someone and haven't in a while my hormones are raging so take that for what it's worth. We had a good sail but they needed more practice. the older couple had a really hard time. They were over thinking the process and not feeling the boat and wind and water.
Sailing is about sensitivity. Yes its a science but its also an art form in which the sailor listens to his or her body and the boat and the wind and water and learns to feel what the boat needs. The older couple and the young military guy didn't get there. The young woman did get it and was easily the most proficient of the bunch. It's always nice when you have a student who gets it and when they get it expresses the joy that I feel when I'm sailing in the groove. I'm not going to go all hyperbolic and say it's "orgasmic" but it is exhilerating and in a light to moderate wind day has a sort of zen purity and connection to the natural world that makes you feel as though you are riding the world and the world is happy you're there.
It might be that it's springtime, it might be that the warmer weather has people wearing less, it might be my own hormonal backlog, but the women students are bringing out the sex drive in me. The young woman I've just described was too young for me but she was cute and it was hard not to steal a glance at her cleavage or her legs or since she kept putting her feet up on the centerboard trunk the backs of her thighs. I love the backs of a woman's thighs. (among other parts, like well, everything). It was even harder since she was flirting. Obviously as an instructor I maintain a professional demeanor with all of my students. I don't want any of them to feel uncomfortable and I myself have mandated that there be no fraternization with students while they are students. (I'm one of the senior instructors and responsible for training and evaluating other instructors). But let's face it, women, especially those who are trying something new and using their bodies are just plain hot. Yesterday, in addition to the young'un there were two other women who were stoking the internal fires. One was a member who rents the boats frequently and is one of those positive energy types whom people just seem to like being around. She's a pistol and yesterday her jokes, flirts and were just the perfect boost for the late afternoon.
The other was a student that I had taught in one class who has a sort of outdoorsy/athlete hardness to her combined with a great smile and beautiful crystaline eyes. Yup she's the one I had a really intense sex dream about last night. Kind of took me by surprise since I haven't woken up during a sex dream and thus remembered it clearly in a long time. At the end of her lesson yesterday she asked if I was going to come to social sailing on wednesday. I said I would. Here's hoping I don't pop a boner in my lightweight sailing shorts on Wednesday.
Enough for now. Next up Wine Club from last night and the eternal debate started by two women friends of mine, "are all men pigs?"
We'll come back to that.

sounds like a cool job, and that bar sounds good too.
