Blimey a long overdue blog posting :p
Life's got very hectic. My voluntary redundancy and big cheque is less than seven weeks away. Between now and then I have..more job interviews,,,,a trip to Holland....a St Patricks Day trip to Dublin....leaving do's...and studying for an IT exam in April.
My cunning plan (Baldrick!) to fund my own IT qualifications by spending some of the money I'm getting seems to be a very good one. Trouble is the exams need two x two week courses plus 120 hours plus of extra work. One thing keepsme focussed...show me the money
I'm writing this from the London, two days into the second week. I'll spare you the geeky IT contents of the course (cute, geeky girls are welcome to get in touch anytime btw)...lets just say its hard work...
What I am enjoying is the madness and divesity that is London. I'm between Camden and Islington, and just been for a decent Indian meal (actually like nearly all UK Indian restuarants it's actually from Bangladesh!). This on a street with a resturants for Jamacian, Greek, Chinese, Thai, Italian, French, a Spanish deli (looks Catalonian to me) and an assortment of Pizza and cafes. Don't get me started on the lunch choices that ended up with my choice of Mexican
Whats really interesting about UK Indian resturants is they serve a local UK flavour of food. It's been adopted and made hotter and spicer for our palattes. I know this after eating in them with some Indian and Sri Lankan guys who worked with me. For those from Amercia think how different American Italian food is, adopted from the original Italian cusinse. Never tried food in Italy? Then you really, really need to.
Sorry to my Canadian friends who are gonna find this all very weird. Your French-Canadian cusine is barely different to its French origins. No bad thing
Now I've travelled the world a bit, and enjoyed food on three continents. I can't think of many other cities where such different cusines and cultures would sit so happily together. All were full (well the Chinese wasn't, but didn't look that hot). All had great menus.
Don't get me wrong, I've had great Chinese in San Franciso's Chinatown. And Italian food in Turin and little Italy in SF. Spanish seafood and tapas in Barcelona and Gran Canaria. French cusine in Montreal, Quebec and France. And awesome local food in Kenya, Begium, Malta, Amercia and so on.
Thing is they were all in the country of origin, or in local neighbourhoods. Not a great big jumble of a place.
Just as well I only have a week here. I'd be beyond BCB if I stayed longer
In other headlines...
- two of the guys who work for me and were more forced to leave, have both found good well paid jobs. I'm so proud of both of them
- won a "senior" meeting, racing in my hobby. Despite the jibes I'm proud of the win, and its brought some of the old magic back. Ah the memories...
- Kerrang tour gig was pants. Only high spot was headliners Coheed and Cambria who were ok, and nothing more. Support bands were poor. Just as well I drank lots to block the first one out
- Finally got tickets for Good Charlotte's gig local to me. Bloody box office never seems to appreciate how much I spend with them, and "forgot" to tell me. Gonna be a big gig in a small 1,500 persona venue.
- My faithful sports car turned 70,000 miles this week. It's reliably turning in big mileages and dealying the threat of a replacement. Along overdue trip (or two!) around the Nurburgring is planned. Rarely looked forward to anything quite as much
That's all for now. See wait a while...but when my blogs come along, they are packed full of content!
More when the roller coaster slows down long enought. Scream if you wanna go faster :p
