Stayed up until about 5am watching the oscars. lord of the rings- 11 big ones. it was getting boring watching it over and over again every single bloody award. Not that i didn't think they didn't deserve it. It's three of the best films ever made, and thats what they were getting the reward for. The best actor gong was strange. i wanted bill murray to win because he's an extremely funny guy and although i haven't seen 'lost in translation' i'm pretty sure he deserved something for it. However when it got to sean penn, i had no problem with that at all, because he is genuinely one of the best actors of his generation. If you have ever seen 'Casualties Of War' he scares the shit out of you as you watch him and his soldiers murder that vietnamese girl, and that's 99% because of his performance. I would love to have seen johnny depp win something, but not for pirates, cos basically all he was playing was a slightly gay pirate. Ed Wood, yes, Edward Scissorhands, yes, even donnie brasco or that drug dealer guy in blow, but not for that. his time will come.- maybe i should do a film masters- i spend most of my time watching films rather than reading books...heh
charlize theron looked amazing..
I was actually reading a book for my course at the same time. It was called 'shame' and it was by salmun rushdie. Now i came with some trepidation cos i was expecting something overtly political, but instead i got this weird fairy tale about pakistan which was very very crazy but very very good. his use of language was amazing and some of his storytelling beautiful. It was like he was using this concept of the novel and turning it into something different but combining myth and politics together- it was very strange.. but all you need to know is that it has sheep and goat fucking plus a fat doctor hypnotising girls to sleep with him, plus a girl who has 27 children, because her clairvoyant husband had predicted it- and a beast that takes the body of a 21 year old woman with a 9 year old brain.
very strange, hard to maybe get into- but brilliant.
book review over.
now to watch 'one flew over the cuckoo's nest' - see how that goes!
by the way, my girlfriend's getting depressed job wise... please wish her luck in finding one. i'm giving her as many hugs as i can, but as you'll all know, sometimes its hard to get out of a slump.

if you liked salmans style try 'fury'. it's one of the most 'visually' stunning books i've read in a long time. have 'shame' in my big pile of books to read so guess I should yank it to the top and read it next!
