Soooo, this semester should be GRAND.
Photography-took first roll today on a 35mm manual Minolta X-700 old school camera, which we will be developing in darkroom on monday : ). Its becoming a lost art and honestly so far I'm really into the idea of film. I have a digital SLR but have found myself more intrigued with the power I have to manipulate every detail of my photo and not have a machine trying to auto correct things I'm messing up on purpose. The professor is wonderful, all my professors are this time around which im grateful for.
Color Experience- We are not studying color "theory", we are basing our studies off of joseph albers who instead said it should be experienced. I kind of agree. Color is one of the most complicated subjects when you ask me. Ask 100 people to think of red and I gurantee they all think of different shades of red. Now ask 100 people what 2+2= ? and they most certainly will get 4. Color is a subject of very touchy memory, visual memory. Some of you might not agree that its a difficult subject, but thats you and if you don't think so, its not really worth my time to debate. Janice is my professor for this class, I had her last semester and have her again twice this time around. I love her enough to follow her around. Some of my favorite quotes so far... "change is a result of influence", speaking in color terms of course. A fellow alumni said " yellow&purple dance, orange & blue dance, but red & green Tango". If your wondering what he meant I can explain further if you show interest.
Humanities- Currently in the study of Indian Art, Literature and Music. Last night I read part of the Bhagavad Gita last night and man oh MAN! 2nd Teaching line 55 - the end really hit home. Go look it up if you care enough.
Although this is a random thought Karma is said to be that " all creatures are ultimately responsible for their own existential conditions, and existence is invariably bound up with suffering"....I've in my mind compared it to Existentialism which a philosphy that has always intrigued me...and Sartre said pretty much the same thing and that the suffering caused in life was made by the fact that people had freedom and freedom was a sense of suffering in that you HAD and HAVE to make your own choices.....
okay I lost my self reading more as I stopped typing to reference back to material...too much to type and way to difficult for a blog...
BUT ANYWAYZ ....I think this semester will be awesome for the first time in a long time I'm actually getting into my studies....I'm surrounded by culture and art this fall. I'm in love with my short term future haha
P.S. Hopefully everyone will see a progression in my work as next week I will try and post some of my pieces from my two art classes.
