for the past week or so, I've been getting a raft of shit from two particular inmates in my unit.
I should've been able to figure out what was going on, but it wasn't until I actually looked up their records that I did.
in Maximum, there are generally 2 types of "guests": inmates & cons.

found out a couple of days ago that the last of my grandfather's brothers died last wednesday.
he had terminal cancer, but the cause of death was a self-inflicted gunshot wound, altho that's just one of those things that stays in the family--won't be mentioned in the obit in the paper.
my grandfather had 6 brothers: 3 shot themselves, as did one of his nephews....

I'm sorry to hear he died. Or, I guess, glad he's not just suffering and waiting anymore.
I never know whats appropriate for condolences.

ah, spring.
starting to get that nice twinkly slant of light, buds budding, birds twittering, & a jug of suntea steeping on the shading-from-pale-straw-to-green lawn.
youngest (&, paradoxically, tallest) sister came back from college in Fargo with her boyfriend (seems like a decent guy, but their giggly we're so in love, hands in each others back pockets, baby-talk, late-teens-early-twenties, sweet valley high kinda thing they...

tonight at work someone had tacked up an article from the Vegas paper saying that there are plans in the works to build a coal-fired power plant a few miles from here.
much is made over the fact that this is an economically depressed area (which it is) & that it'll bring a few jobs to the area, both building & manning the thing, &...

I have a new toy: a Fender Stratacaster & I love it (the cats, however, do not, & have been circling ads in the classifieds for new dwellings)

what if, during, say, the 1850's the British Parliament, buoyed up by popular opinion, decided that the "peculiar American Institution of Slavery" was wrong, evil, degrading & made a mockery & sham of our vaunted Democratic Principles, & told us to Cut It Out.
& we, of course, told them to mind their own beeswax, despite the growing Abolitionist movement, which felt pretty...

the town I live in is pretty tiny--there's 2 places to rent movies, one of which is also the only grocery store.
I went to the other place last night & flipped thru the meager collection of dvds (pretty much mass market blockbusters--the only foreign or independent features being: Spirited Away. that's it. period)
however:

shortly before I got to work yesterday, two of the inmates in my Unit got into a fight in their cell & one was hauled to the infirmary & one was taken to the Hole.
one of the first tasks of the evening was to seperate their property, stow it someplace, & Clean Up All The Blood.

Art is everywhere...and potential is so quickly lost in this world when people make mistakes. That must be a difficult job.
I know about Nevada though. I stayed in northern Nevada for like two months a few years ago. There were two choices of occupation there. You could work at the brothel, or you could work in the silver mine. Or, if you didn't have a job, you spent all your time playing the slots at the 7-11.
But, damn, the desert was beautiful.

NYC was fab, altho I just kinda wandered around in my poncho tossing wads of cash in random directions--
(at one point while I was still on the Ice Planet of Buffalo, I extricated some cashish out of an ATM & was pleasantly surprised to find that my balance was considerably plumper than I'd estimated, so I was a bit more reckless with the funds...
