(experiment from a couple of days ago to transcribe a dream--or rather, that efferevescent portion retained upon waking--into my Palm Pilot):

Dream-thing

Columbine style situation
herded into a classroom with a hell of a lot of scared students

savage but strangely sympathetic pair of gunmen

they are laughing but scared

long & ragged dark hair

beards?

They ask a question

Heh heh! Muttering darkly and oiling your rifle... I can't say why, this line conjures up in my mind the image of Clark Ashton Smith, who used -or so I have read - to live in a (log?) cabin in some wild area, somewhere in California, while he was writing The Empire of the Necromancers or The Abominations of Yondo.... I was precisely re-reading The Empire of the Necromancers some days ago, and Smith's fin-de-sicle prose was making me grin like a Cheshire cat!

And you know what? I love this piece!

it's been awhile.

haven't been on the computer much, except for email.

I've been plucking away at the guitar, making glacial, incremental progress--last night I, don't ask me how, slept on one of my fingers wrong--one of the IMPORTANT ones, it turns out--& it just won't move the way I ask it to & just sits there, throbbing.

started my fourth year at the Prison....

jes' need to vent for a paragraph or 2.

in every job I've held (& there've been more than a few) one (cliched) constant has been that "the job wouldn't be too bad if it weren't for x"--with x standing for a group of people with whom one has constant contact & dealings with.

in various food service or retail jobs it was "customers". in...

Long time no post, uh? I hope it's not weird shit that's snowing around you right now, and you'll enjoy a very white Christmas (or at least a black & white one? if not a J&B one?)

Happy New Year!

I've missed regularly reading your journal entries. Always fascinating. smile

got an 800$ traffic tonight.

eight hundred dollars.

(was I drunk? you might ask. well, yeah, kinda, but that didn't enter into the proceedings.)

the citation was, in fact, for lead-footing it at 35 mph. in a 25 mph. zone.

the cop was somewhat sympathetic & wrote on the ticket that I was actually doing 30 mph.

which brought my ticket down to:

eight hundred...

Wow. I'm sorry, if you have the coverage but didn't have the proof does the ticket still stick?

back on-line.

sort of.

I've been having problems lately with memory, freezing up, viruses, & what-not. also, my computer was acting up.

anyway, I took it (the computer) into my local computer repair place-slash-Bible school (it's a small town) & asked the technician/pastor if he could run a diagnostic.

he said that he could, & would, & mentioned that he could upgrade my computer &...

major chunk of uncertainty about my upcoming vacation has solidified.

I'm going to the RNC in New York!

the sort-of-plan is that I'll go to Madison WI next week, meet up with galfriend, & we'll join up with a convoy of protesters who've rented a trio of buses going NYC-way.

however, I'd also like to be accompanied by another galfriend working near Reno. I told...

stupid netflix.

no, stupid ratsonjulia, I guess.

I've been paying the membership fee (which was hiked a couple of months ago) & have gotten quite a few great movies thru it. (& in this town it's pretty much the only way to see, on DVD a non-blockbuster movie made after 2000. or any sort of movie made before then.

thing is: the idea of netflix...

another old piece I just recently came across. I'd been drinking a beer & reading coverage in USA Today of a golf tournament & was struck by a few passages in the description of the course that seemed almost poetic. by the third beer I'd pretty much had this written & then promptly forgot about, but it ain't bad, if I do say so myself....

good news: a neighbor may have spotted Flopper (my missing cat) the night before last.

bad news: my step-father was sentenced to the pokey for 45 days. (long story that I don't know yet--I'll find out what the hell is going on in a few days)

good news: I was supposed to do jury duty in a couple days but it's been cancelled.

bad news:...
