random notion:
what if, during, say, the 1850's the British Parliament, buoyed up by popular opinion, decided that the "peculiar American Institution of Slavery" was wrong, evil, degrading & made a mockery & sham of our vaunted Democratic Principles, & told us to Cut It Out.
& we, of course, told them to mind their own beeswax, despite the growing Abolitionist movement, which felt pretty much the same thing.
& suppose it was further decided that nothing short of Military Intervention would Do (& would have the added benefit of bringing the former colonies, with their huge tracts of land & natural resources aplenty, back into the fold.)
we would have united together--Yankee Spunk & Southern Pride--& given Johnny Redcoat what-for, again.
& probably would've clung much longer to "the peculiar institution" (& all it entails) as a point of National Pride.
just a random notion. discuss amongst yerselves.
