it just barely turned September, & I've already got the heater going--it's still summer, right?
but there's been lot's of rain & nice little splashes of lightning all over the place. from my current post at the prison I've been able to watch a nice lightshow flashbulbing the desert.
also, I got slashed in the face last week.
(such are the vagaries of language--the close proximity of "I work in a prison" & "I got slashed in the face last week" create the impression that something rather exciting happened--but actually I called in sick to go camping with sexy ladyfriend visiting from out of town & in the process of stomping big bits of wood into smaller pieces of wood for a campfire stopped a large, jagged piece of timber from causing damage to bystanders with my cheek. rather brave of me, I thought, when I'd stopped whimpering & had taken an inventory of the intact eyeballs I had left--still two)
other than that (& the fact that some DICKHEAD had left a D battery in the firepit, which exploded when I bent down to check on some corn we had roasting on the fire) I've had a pretty good week. we went hiking, camping, barcrawling, driving, etc.
which makes me again question what the hell I'm still doing in this isolated armpit of a town.

From a distance, your week sounds like a pretty good week, en effet, mon cher.
... and regarding your comment.. by the way, the quality I praise most in Char's translation is one that belongs as well to ratsonjulia's Mechanical Little Helper's: it's definitely not everybody's french! It has Italian syntax, Italian rythmics, and phrases go a pace that would be natural to old Adso von Melk's: the pace somebody who's got all the time from here to eternity uses to walk ...
