one of my criminal law teachers showed my class a video from MTV called flipped. this guy; a self proclaimed gay hater, had to switch places for a day. they dressed him 'gay' and took him to clubs, had him meet gay males and even staged a gay bashing (that he thought was real) the whole time there was a girl; that was kinda his host and at the end she showed him a picture of Matthew shepard and ask if he know who he was, the guy knew. next she showed a picture of a girl crying next to the fence where shepard died. she asked him if he knew who the girl was and he said "no" and then she replied 'that's me, Matthew was my best friend'. it killed the guys hardass attitude and the whole class including me had a break down.

i've got it pretty easy here in NYC, too. not too much closed-mindedness around.. and i really can't imagine what it would be like to have to live with it every day.
the closest i have ever come to it was at this year's gay pride parade. i was walking with a group of 8 or so girls.. ranging from super-femme to drag king butch. and this homeless looking man came up to us and spit at us. and i have never in my life seen such HATE in someone's eyes. needless to say.. it was really a bad place for a person like that to be... millions of gay and lesbian couples.. not to mention those just there for the support of it all.

Having worked professionally as a club DJ before, (although only 1 night a week, not full-time) I can tell you that while it can be a lot of fun, don't ever think for a second that it isn't hard work as well. In fact, after 3 1/2 years of DJing, I was totally burnt out on it and couldn't even stand to go out to other club nights any more, even though I knew I could just relax and enjoy my night out, subconsciously I still associated it with work and couldn't have fun.
Nothing like Sunday..to do really nothing. Ahh I feel so lazy right now...even though for not getting up until 2...I've still managed to accomplish a lot. Well nothing beats smoking a lil weed and clicking on SG to relax.
