ok, so...it's time for me to give an update on my life. here goes:
we have sales quotas that we have to meet every two weeks. the company rules state that if a salesperson does not meet these quotas for three consecutive pay periods, he or she may very well be terminated. up until about thursday, i was deathly frightened that this rule would've been referring to me. then, thursday, as we were continuing to prepare for our inventory (which was scheduled for friday), our district manager stopped in to take a look over the store and speak to the store manager and whatnot. he does his thing and leaves around 5:30 (we close at 6 during the week). about fifteen minutes later, Shirley (store manager) calls me into her office and tells me to close the doors. there i sit, prepared to learn that i have been fired. she starts to explain to me that i haven't been meeting my quotas (duh), and basically that this wasn't a good thing (duh again). as i'm bracing myself for the bad news, she tells me "i told Glen (district manager) that you're not cutting it in sales, but that i thought you wanted to work and wanted to this with this company, so i told him that you'd be interested in training to become a credit manager. he's going to talk to you tomorrow after we finish with inventory, so wear a nice shirt." not an exact quote, but still...EEEEEEEEEEEk. i seriously almost shrieked when she told me that. we had discussed it before, but it had kinda fallen by the wayside since.
so friday morning (yesterday), i get to work at 7:buttfuck30 in the morning to start getting our warehouse ready for inventory. we actually managed to get through it fairly quickly, and wound up i think about $100 OVER (any of you who work in retail and have done inventory should know how good that is..and when you consider that our inventory consists almost entirely of furniture? wow. but anyhow, that isn't the reason for this update.) later on, around 3:30 or so, Glen comes up to my desk, taps me on the shoulder, and tells me that he wants to talk to me. he told me what all would be involved, what i might have to do (as far as moving and traveling and that sort of thing is concerned), and gave me other various information. my training should start anywhere between wednesday and the following monday. i'm so freakin STOKED.
