I have to admit that I find it increasingly hard to listen to any christmas songs on the radio. In years past I would patiently listen and try to conjure up images of christmas mornings and such but now I can't turn to the next station fast enough. And why is it that everyone and thier dog thinks they should produce a christmas album that invariably features the same songs that have been covered by other artists since producers first discovered that there was money to be made from this insanity? Thank god for the scan feature on my radio... Then to make matters worse for some reason the damn store that i work in thinks that it is a good idea to play NOTHING but christmas music all day over and over again about 3 weeks before christmas... With no option to turn the shit off.. I can only listen to the same horrible song by 20 diffrent people so many times before wanting to kill kittens... I mean really? Did we really need fucking John Mayer to put out a damn christmas cd? honestly? Really?
I get really frustrated at the whole Christmas season, and perhaps paradoxically also get frustrated when it is co-opted for political correctness. I don't consider myself religious, but I do empathise with many core values that underly Christianity, and most of those are embodied, or should be, in Christmas. Perhaps one of the reasons so many of us are getting dissatisfied is that it is increasingly less about christmas and more about 'season' and 'holiday'.
If asked, I would never say that "I hate Christmas"...until, one early November morning, walking the dog, enjoying balmy weather, I stop for a coffee and overhear Christmas music, notice Christmas decorations and am handed my coffee in a red and green cup. What's happenning?
My palms are sweaty, I am suddenly feeling behind, inadequate and late when I realize that yes, this is my Christmas feeling. It's here again!
I am not overcome by romantic notions of chestnuts roasting nor the happy faces of children who really do believe in the magic of Santa...but rather by a loathing towards a season that is too long, too false, too commercialized and just simply too much for me.
While im bitchn
So im in a hurry and tryin to leave a message on my girls voicemail and i can't for the life of me understand WHY??? they make you listen to like 2 mins of bullshit before you can leave your damn message, i mean are they that hard up to make you use mins that they feel the need to make you listen to this mindless babble? I love the holiday season, but I hate the commercialism that it all seems to be about anymore. Sometimes I feel like Cindy Loo Hoo, looking for the meaning of the holidays...maybe one day it will be back. I'll be hoping.
I hope you enjoy your holiday as best as you can. ![kiss](https://dz3ixmv6nok8z.cloudfront.net/static/img/emoticons/kiss.fdbea70b77bb.gif)
