Comics ain't just for kids...or just about superheroes
I like comics. I don't think it's something I should feel the need to be secretive about, but at times I feel im in a special club.
In the UK comics are not as big as they are in the US. When you mention comics to people here they seem to think of the Beano and the Dandy. If they get past that they think your a bit of a 'fruit' for liking to read about men in tights who wear their pants on the outside.
I don't like superheroes. In fact the only thing I read that has superheroes in it is the boys, and anyone who has read the boys knows it's not a 'superhero' book as such. I would go as far as to say I don't really enjoy much of anything done by Marvel or DC.
Yeah I like the X-men & Spiderman but they have been milked so much I can't remember the last time I read a good story with either of them. My guilty pleasure is Punisher, but again he ain't a superhero.
As for DC people I like batman. But again, he isn't a superhero, and I haven't been blown away with a good batman story in....ages.
Where am I going with this? Well I went all the way to London the other week to Kapow! A comic convention put on by Mark Millar. I was very excited about this, the idea of being around like minded people, the writters, the artists and all that jazz. But if im honest I felt out of place and didn't think all that much of the event itself.
I was sorting out my comics & my graphic novels and realised I haven't bought anything by Marvel or DC since Old Man Logan.
People of the comic world, lend me your eyes!
Just forget about anything Marvel & DC for a moment. Try something new. Just try anything from the list below and see if it doesn't rate better than anything you have read in a while:

I am a big superhero fan well for a few characters anyway but lean more into cosmic space opera than mainstream heroes. those picks you have there are pretty cool, ive read most of them, im currently leaning towards the steampunkish area of Carbon Grey which is pretty damn cool. Have you tried Chew, Morning Glories or DMZ yet? they are pretty good and right up your street.
Morning Glories is on the list
And I read the first two DMZ trades but it didn't really grab me.
