Hello people! Hope all is well with you lot *nodnod*
I've been having a bit of a weird time lately. Anxiety jumping back in to my life... But at least I can mostly deal with it. True it never really left I suppose but lately it's just been quite an annoyance!
Anyway... Something cropped up in my brain lately (Probably because i've also been listening to a TON of Scar Symmetry) and I remembered two scientific theories that have been floating about. Then I realized that they quite possible are linked together!!!
I'd write it all down fresh but there's alot (And I missed my meds before sleep last night so my head is zoned out), so instead i'll copy / paste this from my Facebook instead...
"I wonder if the theory of the Universe potentially being a simulation inside a computer created by an incredibly advanced previous race http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2012/12/12/physicists-universe-simulation-test-university-of-washington-matrix_n_2282745.html
(And the fact that this could even be a simulation inside a simulation inside a simulation etc etc) and the theory that the Universe is actually a hologram http://www.nature.com/news/simulations-back-up-theory-that-universe-is-a-hologram-1.14328
(Not like Star Trek, Think more like that shiny holographic image on the back of your bank card or like awesome old holographic stickers) could go hand in hand together..? If we were a digital simulation maybe the fact the Universe is a hologram makes sense..?"
Comments go as follows (Names swapped just because)
-
Friend 1: wow. this is my thinking hat for the day. Heard both of those theories but hadn't linked them in my mind before.
-
Me: It could strangely make sense right???
This was also making me wonder about things such as "Is there an after-life..? Are we representations of actual beings or just lines of code in an incredibly advanced program?", "Miracles and the paranormal, are they just glitches or somehow manifestations of people with admin permissions..?", "Telepathy, if we're all programs on the same server surely then there could be such a thing, even if science can't really explain it.", "Religion... Is god just a bunch of programmers and coders..?", "Time, if this is a simulation surely time in the simulation may be running ALOT faster than time outside the simulation."
Meh... One of the few things I was told I was good at in school was Philosophy... The one most joked about for being useless subject is Philosophy...
I mean if we're representations of actual organic beings then maybe reincarnation (Respawning but with a wiped memory) could actually be a thing! If we're lines of code do we ever truly die..? Does that program get deleted or re-run from scratch..? -
Friend 1: the program might run again with different parameters but we would never really be us as we would not remember. It would just be a new run through of a code string that is moulded by a multitude of other code strings around it.
-
everything picked up by a neurone would be a new piece of code added and an old piece modified
-
when you replace the handle and the brush enough times is it the same broom? Is the program still you?
-
Me: Whilst that's true... Maybe there's a program log. If you could see the log you could see every little thing that program has ever done... And if there's a log saving such information then maybe finding that log would even give you such realization that you would know everything that every you ever knew sounds insane but makes sense in my head...
-
Friend 1: also the programs are born from the codes of a mother and father program and take information from each and depending on variables inputted via neurone from outside codes the subject code would develop in various potential ways. To imply reincarnation in a buddhist sense would imply as way of getting a seperate core code in. There isn't a way to apply the information, to add the strings from the previous runthough. The best you could hope for is a rerun of the whole system.
Me: Plus with the broom example... The broom doesn't have any sense of its existence. What if a person somehow replaced their entire body but still had their mind. Are they the same person still..?
The reincarnation idea seems clunky I guess. But computer systems usually have limitations... And the Universe is supposedly infinite. Just wondering if system resources are being transferred from one place to another. Plus when you run a program and then end it you don't delete it (Or you might... Depends). You may want to run that program again at another time!
-
Friend 1: maybe it's cloud sourced? that would guve an infinite flow. The universe is expanding. Maybe some sort of three dimensional torrenting?
-
true, you don't delete it. However the programs are learning AI. there would have to be good reason to delete it's knowledge and re run it, also you'd have to reboot the whole system!
-
Me: I guess aswell if programs interacted with each other and modified themselves depending on those interactions, the same program could be run many many many times and never turn out the same way... As it's reacting to nearby programs that are the same or similar. Each one of them is always different too depending on their surrounding programs. I'm just thinking technically everything is right next to everything if it's inside a computer program... So distance isn't relevant to anything connected to the system. (And that's how we will break the light-speed barrier! Or just jump from one point to another!)
-
Friend 1: maybe we are all torrenting lives that have been before and our brains are just downloading and storing the data from the simulation. We are memory. Intriguing how we named memory in a computer the same as the knowledge reserviour in our minds. It's almost as if even as unaware primitive code, we knew.
-
Me: I just also wonder if it's possible to communicate to who ever is running the simulation
-
An E-Mail to God
-
Friend 1: Hello Program Operator? This is Haela. Take me to your head of IT.
Me: Gief stat boost, gold, and legendary loot drops plx!
-
Friend 1: give admin privileges kthnx
-
Friend 2: Why are you discussing this in terms of current technology?
-
Friend 1: of course, we currently have 3 dimensional torrenting. where can I buy. wait.. not enough dimensions 5, I'm going with 5.
-
Me: I guess it's just easier to put in to understandable terms than saying it's a universe dream crystal whatever thingamejig whatsitbob. I don't know really... It's hard to imagine what something running a universe inside a universe inside a universe could potentially look like or how it would run... x_x
-
Me: We are all 3D shadows of a 2D universe lol
-
(Physical dimensions anyway... Maybe... Who knows if there are more. Ack my brain hurts!)
-
Friend 1: mfw the developer is pixel art
-
Me: And this dev really loves roguelikes... x_x
So... Am I insane..? Recently i've been thinking about this more and more. I guess it's something i'll never know the answer to though sadly.
*Sigh*
Anyway... Tonight i'm looking forward to the release of Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth! I shall get some tasty Singapore Vermicelli in from a local take away... Lots of energy drinks and fizzy drinks... And have tons of fun!!! Also this weekend i'm headed out to two rock clubs!!! Friday is a local rock club that I haven't been too (I hate the DJ's there... Douchebags) but I have friends headed there so figured i'd give it a shot... And Saturday is the local goth monthly nightclub where they're celebrating Halloween! Shall be awesome. I have a nice bottle of Bison Grass Vodka here too!!! Looking forward to giving it a try =D
Anyway... For now people take care... Hope I haven't blown your minds too much!!! *salutes*
