Wow. Concrete Blonde. I'm pretty sure there has never really been a better band. Saw them (again) on Sat night--they are getting up there, but they are still amazing.
Johnette was as amazing as always (cool tattoos, too, since I'm posting this on SG.) Her voice is just so full of emotion--pain, resignation, anger, love. So amazing. And she even kicked someone out who'd been demanding "God Is a Bullet" (which she'd earlier said they weren't going to play because the emotion is too raw. "If I sing that song, the show wil be over; I won't be able to go on."
And James Mankey is such an underrated guitarist. Love his subtle work, and how he keeps the song moving while still managing solos. They opened with the new single, the haunting "Rosalie." Did a lot of heavier material. Added "Beds Are Burning" (Midnight Oil) and "As Tears Go By" (Stones) to the set.
If they come to your town: SEE THEM.
This is maybe the 4th or 6th time I've seen them and it may've been the best. (Met them a few times too--very cool, chill, people.)
Of course, if you don't know who I mean....
This song is mellower than usual....but beautiful:
Concrete Blonde "Rosalie"
