So, Living in Madison officially rocks!
I've been biking to work. Today I biked to work (2 blocks away) PDQ to fill up my tires and then to Walgreens.
It's been nice. We're pretty much unpacked and I love the new place.
In other words, Ill be off work a lot this week because...
MY BIRTHDAY IS THURSDAY!
I'll be 21.
needless to say, I'm excited.
So right now I'm killing time until a show comes on and I want your opinion.
I've been watching the show Huge on ABC Family.
I can't decide if I like it or hate it.
It's about these teenagers at fat camp. One of the girls, Will, basically thinks it's crap that she was sent there to lose weight so she is trying to gain it while there. Then there are other characters who are there to lose weight and one of them becomes anorexic and was sent home.
There are a couple of things that bother me...
1. Characters make an appearance in an episode and then are replaced with another camper in the next episode. Granted I've only seen 2 episodes, but in both a character was introduced and then "sent home"
2. I'm getting mixed messages because half of the people are saying "Yeah lets get skinny" and then the main character is saying it's ok to be heavy (which it is.) the part that gets me though is that they glorify Will and her message to accept yourself, but during the commercials they are saying things like "For tips on how to get healthy visit our website." and "a healthy person takes care of themselves emotionally, mentally and physically."
3. My final point is that every time there is a show with heavier people in the cast, the show is about how heavy they are or about getting them to lose weight. Examples: More to Love (Fat Bachelor, pretty much), Huge, Drop Dead Diva, Biggest Loser, Dance Your Ass Off, etc.
There is never just a normal show where the characters are heavier.
I want a show where there are people like me, but being fat isn't a punchline.
Is that too much to ask?

this show is based off of a novel, if you stick it out to the end i think youll have a resolution of sorts to the issues mentioned here.
the thing about the one-off campers.. that tends to happen at (any) camp.
what theyre trying to convey with those particular instances, i feel, is that unlike williminia some of those girls have serious psychological disorders and THOSE are of the utmost importance in addressing FIRST.
also it would be unfair to assume that the message being conveyed there applies only to fat women, because really it is common place in females in general regardless of size. if that makes any sense lol
i absolutely adore this show and i personally can really relate to soooo many of the different issues just barely touched in the first two episodes. i hope they fully address them into depth.
