Hi Everybody;
Sorry for not getting the word out sooner..but Kathy will have to have additional surgery. The pathology came back yesterdayand it found that the cancer was more widespread in her right breastthan originally thought. So, this means Kathy will have a mastectomy on the right side at a minimum. More than likely she will opt to have a bilateral mastectomy(both breasts)done with reconstruction so there will be no further chance of breast cancer. And this also means that Kathy may not have to have any radiation or chemotherapy, and that is a plus as well. Kathy is holding up very well considering all of this, and always the optimist, she said, "If nothing else, I will end up with a pair of 'perky breasts'...LOL!
So, step one in the process is to meet with the plastic surgeon on Feb. 12th. Then, the plastic surgeon and Kathy's surgeon will consult on a surgery date. After surgery, Kathy will have to spend 1-2 days in the hospital for recovery before going home. As soon as we know the date, I will pass on the info. That's the scoop for the moment. As ever, Kathy and I would like to thank everyone for their kind words and concern. We really appreciate the fact that we have such good friends. Take care! Rich and Kathy
