Yep, I'm still here, but apparently a few of my friends aren't.... Jeez, come back after a few days and the place has gone to hell in a handbasket!!
WOW, the Tribal Quest show at the Fez last night was AMAZING!!!! I'm not taking any workshops this year, but I offered to help out with stuff. So last night I worked the merchandise table and got to see the show for free... First up was Gypsy Cab, who play that gypsy swing music I love so much. Then Sister Caravan blew the house away with an amazing set. They danced to what I can only describe as "techno bellydance" music. Utterly amazing. Then Neena and Veena, "the Bellydance Twins" (they're famous! They danced at Brad and Jennifer's wedding! ) did a completely delightful (and way too short) Indian dance number. Last but not least was a new group affiliated with the Tribal troupe in Seattle - RaqStars! Heh heh - I'm not sure why nobody thought of that name before!! ("raq" is Arabic for "dance") I bet you never saw a troupe of dancers in little black tank tops, blue jeans and red hipscarves dance to some remixed version of "Smells Like Teen Spirit"!! Cool, to say the least. Then a DJ spun bhangra tunes til the small hours (Byron picked me up at 11, so we missed most of that). All in all, a fabulous evening! I'm also helping out Saturday night at the Hollywood Theater show, which should be even more amazing, and the dinner afterwards, and also helping to check in workshop participants on Sunday. I sure hope I can take lessons again soon. I really, really miss it.
Anyway, lots has transpired since I last wrote, so let's see if I can hit the highlights: The tattoo speech was a grand success (and now speech class is over - hallelujia!!). We got a domain name for Radio Bastet, so stay tuned for www.radiobastet.com, coming soon to a computer near you! And going along with that, I'm going to be interviewed for The Chronicles bellydance magazine!! Woo-hoo!!!! I really need to get going on my research paper - I have the cover page and the Works Cited page done, now all I have to do it put 10 pages or so in the middle... We've had record heat around here for the last week or so, which has entailed me sleeping downstairs on the couch ; looks like we're in for a respite, though (another hallelujia!). The new issue of TBP is out and it's fabulous! And, speaking of TBP, Marione got a call from somebody in the production office at some movie studio in LA; they want to be able to use a copy of TBP #29 as a prop on a character's desk in a movie!!! Another woo-hoo!!
Well, the fabulousness is overtaking me, so best go lie down... I leave you with your Wilde quote for the day:
Those who see any difference between soul and body have neither.
