Thanks for the sympathetic words, everyone. The nail's still fairly tender but hurts a lot less. I think I do see a bit of wood still stuck under there; the dark spot may be a bit of paint. It's just gonna have to grow out, I guess. What a way to start the summer quarter...
I am, however, faring better than our editor at TBP, who fell flat on her face yesterday and broke her dentures! They took her to the ER and thankfully she didn't break any bones. She's in her early 60's and on disability, living alone in a little apartment up in Bellingham, WA. She's been thinking about moving down to Redding to be with her daughter, and now she's really getting serious about it. About time, I'd say.

My mother wiped out like you described the editor doing, broke her teeth. It's scary.
One way or the other, I will survive. Just having a rough summer. Everything will get better...I hope.
