I returned from my annual journey to St. P a couple of days ago and it was fantastic. I really didn't want to go home.
I rented a dacha in the forest near Komarovo in the Gulf of Finland about an hour from the city this year. Much nicer than staying in a hotel, and it meant I got to take the bike and have a play in the forest. Marvellous.
I've eaten like a King, been cross-country skiing, went to the ballet (how cultured am I?), went swimming with the Walruses in the still frozen Neva (cold doesn't even come close), went to a few new places and some of my old favourites, and I got a new female following, I've already got mail from two of them.
Anyway, it's a spanking place, if you've never been book your flight now. I'll be back there next summer, I think I'll stay at Petrodvorets Sanatorium at Peterhof, which should be a little different and it's only a quick trip on the hydrofoil into the city. Besides, summer+beach = girls in bikinis.
St. P is undoubtedly the best place anywhere.
