Since I have 'High Fidelity Disease' I too am making 'Best of the 2000s' lists. Music is up first. I decided to just do a top 5 so that I stop agonizing over this nonsense. Honorable mentions were added because, well, they NEEDED to be, dammit.
TOP FIVE ALBUMS OF THE DECADE
5. Arcade Fire-Funeral-man did I get on this train way too late. it's raw and bittersweet and empowered by all the melancholy it exudes.
4.Deftones-White Pony-one day, before it (seemingly) disappeared forever, Faith No More had a child. that child would soon become the raging teenager known as Deftones. White Pony is what happens when you read their diary.
3.Modest Mouse-Good News For People Who Love Bad News-I have never heard a Modest Mouse album I didn't like, but this one just wouldn't stop following me home.
2. Radiohead-Kid A-this precious little shard of sonic bugfuckery is a planet all unto itself. one made of sentient audio equipment powered by poltergeists.
1.The Mars Volta-Frances the Mute-completely under my skin and over my head, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
Other High Points: Clutch-Blast Tyrant, Sigur Ros-Agaetis Byrjun, DJ Shadow-The Private Press, The Streets-Original Pirate Material
