As some of you know, I've just spent the last 8 days backpacking through a section of the Huachuca mountains in Arizona called the Miller Peak Wilderness. Let me tell you that this is NOT a good place to go hiking if you're out of shape! The terrain is some of the most rugged I've encountered, making parts of the Apalachian Trail look like a cakewalk. The scenery, particularly the 170 species of birds and other wildlife are what make this trip worth it. Normally I would plan something like this for months before actually venturing out in the wilderness all by my lonesome, but what can I say... After looking up at those mountains from my friend's back yard for nearly a month, I was quite anxious to get out there.
Friday morning I was dropped off about 2 miles before the trail starts (The car wouldn't make it up the rough mountain road) and began my hike into the Miller Peak Wilderness.

I somehow managed to make it nearly 18 miles the first day (not including the 4 miles it took to actually get into the wilderness) and by 4:30PM I was tired and sore. I stumbled onto this old stone foundation, and decided it would be a good spot to spend my first night.

Aside from some random visitors in the night, I slept pretty well there. The visitors I speak of were most likely black bears roaming the area looking for food, and the most likely smelled what I had been cooking earlier. I wish I'd have taken some pictures of them, but I thought it wise not to possibly spook them by getting out of the tent to do so.
Anyway... I'll be updating this with more pictures from this little excursion as I get them resized and ready to display, so check back
In the meantime... Here's a few more!
