I actually got me some sleep last night.. or should I say this morning.. Somewhere around 1AM I decided to take some sleeping pills because every time I tried to get to sleep I would get up and cough up half a lung. Well, the sleeping pills did the trick and I stumbled out of bed around noon feeling a little better than I was feeling last night.
Right now I just feel like I'm in a drug induced stupor and they're not even good drugs! Fucking Advil Cold and Congestion, TheraFlu, etc. I hate being sick, I'm such a baby about it! I really want a cigarette, but with my throat the way it is, it's probably the worst thing for me..
I'm trying to be productive and work on a new website, but I'm getting stumped as far as ideas for the introduction.. I got a kick ass domain name tho. phillywifisolutions.com I should have no trouble getting to the top of google with that one.
I rescheduled my job interview for next thursday, so hopefully that goes well and I'll be getting some real health insurance and other benefits that come from working for a larger company.. As much as I hate the idea of working for someone else, I'm at that point in my life where I need some sort of stability even if it's doing boring shit like windows network administration.. They were willing to let me do it remotely, so that's a definite plus!
I am still set on leaving Philadelphia in April no matter what happens! I just hope after putting all this money into fixing up the boat, I've got enough left over to live on untill I start getting bi-weekly checks from the new job. I really want to be in mexico by April 25th, but I guess we'll see what happens.. I still need to find someone to sail there with me, it's no fun going all by myself.. It's going to be very nice though.. Cheap marina that only charges $6 per foot for slip fees, beer for 25 cents, nice beaches, absolute fucking paradise even if I only get to stay for a month.
I still have plenty to do before I leave though.. I need to install a power inverter and a 4 battery array so that I can run all my electronics while at sea. I downloaded plans for a solar power system, so I'm thinking that's the way to go. Sadly, a solar powered motor would cost me 5k and I just don't have that right now..
If I'm feeling better tomorrow and the weather is decent, I'm going to start painting the interior, which is badly in need of it.. After that, I need to build my new desk/work area, which will be very nice compared to the crapy little table I'm using now.
Any fellow geeks will appreciate this little side note:
I'm building a Linux router/firewall/WAP with a 4' antenna which will be housed in a waterproof enclosure and mounted on deck. From there I will run cat5 to 4 ethernet jacks located at various convenient places throughout the boat. I should be pretty well set up for work once that's accomplished. Fitting al this gear into a 27 foot sailboat has not been an easy task, but I'm stubborn and I'll make it work. Luckily it's a Hurley, which means the cabin is huge for a 27' boat. Gotta love the English, they sure knew how to build yachts! This thing is also WAY more stable than my 39' I was living on in Florida! Smaller yes, but what she lacks in size, she makes up for in handling. Of course if I had my choice, I'd take the 50' 1927 Alden that's sitting at the end of the marina here, but I don't have 200k so I'll just have to dream.. That is a REALLY NICE yacht! I love the old wooden ones.
Well, I suppose I should try to get some work done instead of spending hours on SG..
