I went to roller derby last night. I had no idea what to expect, but a few things there caught me off guard. When I saw the announcer skating around in a suit and cowboy hat, I thought he was a little eccentric. When superman came and joined him, I was like "WTF mate?" Then the devil started skating around in a cape. Apparently the cape was a new addition, because he kept tripping on it. He didn't wear it for the actual match. By the time the guy in the rabbit costume came out, it didn't surprise me any longer. It all started making sense. If you looked at it from a crazy person's point of view.
It was pretty cool, though. The break dancers were good. So was the capoeira. They had what must have been the longest organ interlude between the first and second periods, though. I was about to kill when they played theHokey Pokey. They had an afterparty, but I had somewhere else to be. I really should have gone to the afterparty instead. The other one I went to was a let-down.
The highlight of the night, though, was the one-armed girl winning the armwrestling match. I'm not sure why it caught me off guard. First off, she was going against a right handed girl, while she herself lacked that arm. They had to go left handed. Advantage: one armed girl.
All in all, I would recommend going to see some rollerderby.
