This weekend, I went to Red Deer. There was a fundraiser at the Vat for the Costume Society I was previously a member of (life-long member now, I believe!)....
And they needed acts.
So I put on a show.
First, I was Marilyn. I sang 'Some like It Hot', 'I Wanna be Loved by You' and 'Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend'. The audience was wonderful and responsive, too. Probably because I know so many of em. It was funny to see all the people from the Arts Centre, along with my 'urban family' in Red Deer... I was so busy running around though, that it was hard to visit. Sigh.
The Vat was decorated with lines of underwear. Thy even had a gal on a trapeze giving out condoms! They had made tshirts and I now have a new Bettie Page shirt that sez BURLESQUE.
So, the big bit (at least in my mind) was my first ever burlesque appearance. (Picnic, where are you? You would be so proud!) I had made a costume, including a corset and tassles... Fun. It went well - and I had lots of fun onstage.
The audience response was really fun to watch (especially when I did the twirling the tassles both ways trick). It was like the punchline to my act... Ha. A friend managed to film it on her camera, so there will be pictures (and possibly a video file) soon.
Yesterday was the trip back. And so much homework!... Essays and studio classes, oh my!
Hmm. My brain is brewing, though - so many more ideas for costumes and general debauchery... But so little time.
Back to school, then.
