I'm back after a week in Germany and some days at home without internet due to computer problems so time for a proper update. Where should I start...
Berlin was great, I really liked that city.Sometimes when walking there it felt like I was dropped somewhere in 80s, all the buildings that reminded me of those Finnish apartments of 80s style (which actually can be quite terrible). But at the same time the whole city seemed so colourful with all the paintings on the walls, with people from all over the world etc. Somehow it made me to miss London, maybe because it had the same big city vibe in it.
It was pity that we did not have too much time to explore the city by ourselves because it was a trip organised by the uni. Did lot of historical sightseeing, had a two days seminar about the whole berlin wall, about living in a spystate and about how the wall came down. Some of the speakers were really interesting and learned a whole lot about berlin but unfortunately all the German speakers did not have such a good level of English which made few people to fall asleep during the seminar..including our program coordinator and myself
here's some photos I took in Berlin, unfortunately not too many...
As you can see we did not have the nicest weather but I thought the sky looked very beautiful on this one
Checkpoint Charlie, I just had to take this photo as it is also the logo of SG Europe group
The Holocaust monument in Berlin. My friends actually look bit too happy in this one..It is a big maze and it is mean to symbolize the feeling of Jewish people on the concentration camps. I think it actually was very impressive, felt very depressive to walk through it..i dont know if this is really the right word..
Stasi prison (this is the one of the "nicest" looking parts of it) This place was used to prison the people before their confession during the cold war. We had a guided tour through it and in some point I actually stated to feel physically sick because of the stories we heard about how the prisoners were treated..Makes me feel really sad that people are still treated this way in some places
Something nicer, this is an awesome squat place where they pay 50cent of rent per month for the whole building. it has cinema, bars, artist studios etc in it. Went there for few pints of delicious german beer one night, really cool place. And the nice part is that all the artist studios are also open till midnite so you can go to see the work they are doing there.
On Friday morning headed to the long waited hurricane festival and I have to say it was worth of the wait! Saw QOTSA,Millencolin, NIN, SOAD, Rammstein, Ska-P, Turbonegro, Oasis, Audioslave, beatsteaks, Beck, Fantomas,La Vela Puerca, Team sleep and half of the Flogging Molly gig..Got some crow surfers shoe straight into my bridge piercing and it started to bleed like hell and I had to run to first aid to check it out because I could not see did it rip off or what..luckily no bigger harm done and the piercing is still in. It just seems I try to avoid Flogging molly in all possibly ways
Returned from the festival on Sunday night without voice and covered in small bruises on my legs and arms, most of them from SOAD gig I think..Got great memories from the festival and just feel like I wanna go again..
But before the next festival there is still shitloads of studying to do in next 9 days..after that I start my holiday because my little sister comes here, arent we just cute together
