I was in line at the grocery and I saw a wrinkled up old man with these huge hearing aids, and this smudgy old tattoo on his forearm. It was a black & white outline of a Hawaiian pin-up girl in a grass skirt. So when he smiled at me, I told him that I loved his tattoo. He got this cute little grin on his face and said "I got this in 1943 when I served at Pearl Harbor. I was in the Navy! I was 18 years old, let me tell you.". It was the sweetest thing. I swear, I just wanted to put him in my purse and take him home with me. I hope that doesn't seem condescending, because I have total respect for a man who served in WW2, but this guy was adorable. And he poked me on the shoulder every time he said something, just to emphasize his point.
After a few minutes of standing in line, he turned to me randomly, poked my shoulder and told me about how one day a "Jap" in a bomber plane came right down toward him and then flew away. He said he was surprised he didn't get bombed, and so after he cam home he started "serving the Lord" and still does.
After a few more minutes, he looked up at me and smiled and said "You know what? You look just like the girl I dreamt about last night." And I said "Oh really? What happened?", and he told me that she drove him around in her car and gave him her phone number. "Then I just woke up!" he said.
It was the best thing, I swear I don't think anything could ruin my mood.
