have just decided to read all of nabokov's novels. progress so far:
lolita
bend sinister
despair
for those who may be unfamiliar with nabokov's literary trajectory, the first two on my list were written in english in the u.s., but despair he wrote in russian in germany in 1932 and translated into english himself much later. i like this bypassing of a separate translator, which eliminates all sorts of scepticism as to authenticity.
the man not only possesses a ruthless dry wit, but may be a misogynist as well, making him an ideal object of my affection.
