So I volunteered to work two graduations as a reserve EMS member yesterday, and though it is no money it is still good experience. I have worked a couple of special events so far but had nothing to do at them. Well my partner and I had my first patient with a special event yesterday. And it was a little unsettling. In the ambulance, you have time to prepare yourself for a call when it comes in. It is not a big deal because I am not certified to do anything yet but be a gopher. I think I would have been more conferable if I was there for the assessment but as a gopher I had to get the equipment and get the crew that was going to take them to the hospital. As a designated truck, we can not leave the event until it is over. The person that came and got them was a little bit of a dick, I thought, because he was expecting us to have her on your stretcher ready for them, being that they were being paid and we were not.
Also my cousin's wedding turned out to be a disaster for my immediate family. My sister and her boyfriend was going down to stay the weekend down there in a hotel. On there way down there, her car's alternator goes out. Well how does she decide to fix it but have her ex husband make the two hour trip to change out the part. Three problems there besides the obvious one that he is her ex and she is with her new boyfriend. One: he drives a car that is in worse shape than her's. Two: he has both of their children that weekend a six year old and a two year old. Three: Not one of us had money to pay for the part.
As for the money my mother had to ask the neighbors across the way for it. Being that my sister had already borrowed money from my no count father and my mother had already went to a check cashing place to have money for the trip, which part of also went to the alternator. As for the children, they ended up staying with the boyfriend's mother of all people because my sister did not want them to make the trip down, but only after several conversations about how the kids, my ex brother-in-law, my mother, my grandmother, and i was all going to get there. My sister's bright plan was to have her ex drive my mother's truck, which he is not on the insurance for, and just fix it and go back home. Because of all of the drama my grandmother ended up going with my other cousin, which is what she really wanted to do anyway because she is her favorite. So the three of us; moms, ex-brother, and myself, drove down together. Since my ex-brother-in-all was not welcome at the wedding plus since he did not want to go, after the car was fixed he had to wait until the wedding was over in my sister's hotel room.
As for the wedding itself, it looked nice but I got the feeling that I was not wanted there by my cousin. Every time I walked over to talk to her she finished the conversation she was having and walked away. I finally talked to her when we had to leave to go get the kids. Not really sure what was up with that?

As far as the volunteering, any experience should be good at this point, so even if it was frustrating you can draw from it in the future.
