Hey hey Ya'll!
So I've been keepin myself rather busy lately and haven't had the time to do a proper blog for a bit. Life is really good and the awesome continues! I was pretty busy on my days off last week taking care of things that just come with newly arriving at a post and getting properly settled. There's always a task or two that requires a certain individual that is just never in their office and I finally chased some of those people down! I also came in on my day off for some repelling! It's been two years now since I got Rescue I certified (rope/confined space rescue) so I wasn't about to pass up the opportunity to repel down one of the towers here on base with my shift.
training the younguns on an emergency pick off and the basics before the big day, also an oh so fun candid moment. Having another person dangling between your legs from your harness isn't so much fun, but it is somewhat funny = )
going doooooooooooown = )
just not looking anywhere but in front of you, it was an awesome 9 story building.
It was really good to knock all the rust off, I also went for a good suburban hike and checked out an area that supposedly had some old ruins in it, though the only things really left standing where a very old road and a well, I was hoping for piles of rock like europe. I say hike because it took me about 6 hours round trip. I got a few good shots too!
there was this really awesome little canal next to some baseball fields
I saw this EPIC huge bamboo forest!
And got a fantastic view of the surrounding area from the large hill the fort was built on, certainly had quite the commanding view of the surrounding area. I'll probably be back, first place I've found nearby with sooo much forest! Then on Friday night I caught Sinbad and his Daughter Paige Bryan who where passing through on a USO tour. It was really super awesome and TONS of laughs, Sinbad is hilarious and also a former Air Force guy himself. This little gal Emma stole the show a bit too, she was dancing all over everywhere with Paige and then Sinbad brought her up and they add libbed a song it was a really kick ass show, my cheeks hurt when I left.
I haven't caught many USO tours, and this was only my second one. First one I caught was a week before I left Iraq the second time, a bunch of hooters girls came through with an awesome country band Broke Down Cadillac, which I thought was some kind of military tribute band or something. We called our shit/shower/shave trailers cadillacs because they where so nice. Anyway, I got a bunch of fun signed things from that tour to include a broken coconut bra, and now my collection of nifty tour stuff grows! = )
After that I had another date in Machida, this time we found the bamboo park we missed last time. The place was epic! I think I've found my new peaceful spot. After that we went and caught Captain America Winter Soldier! Had some crepes! Soooo good and I had my first Japanese McDonalds it was reaaaallly good, real chicken chicken mcnuggets mmmm, lol. It was a really fun day. We went back to the arcade too and I got talked into doing one of those photo booth places, worst part was it added/did things to your face so I won't be sharing any of those. Japan is a weird place, but she really liked it so /shrug. I felt better after punching something and a shooting game. Then we had Denny's, it was kind of Japanese American food day lol, which was only somewhat similar to the US. The atmosphere was similar but the menu was very different, really good though. So here's all those in random order.
Samuria KFC Colonel!
I couldn't help myself, too funny = )
check out the little bamboo!
nice little view of the city between the trees
this place was really kewl. We did various movie voices here just cause. She did gollum and I did batman and bane. Apparently my batman voice is really sexy, idk how but hey if it works I ain't complaining! = )
I made tuna fish casserole for the shift, it's good stuff!
We hung out again this week as it's Golden Week here in Japan, which is kind of like spring break for adults but it's broken up into two half weeks. So she came up to see me and hang out. We had some really awesome Lasagna for dinner, I'm super happy there is a place with good lasagna literally just off base. It's hard to find sometimes and definitely one of my favorite foods.
Garfield would approve, it's good!
So all has been well and good in my world.
I've enjoyed reading everyone's blogs on all kinds of everything, I've enjoyed the favorite place ones the most so I figured I'd share my own. My favorite I've read was @dutch_ 's on the Redwoods in CA. Loved the photos, definitely made my destinations list! Worth checking out, I've kept up best as I can on my cell phone lol. I've been to a lot of very awesome places and am quite widely traveled but this was a very easy one for me. I always find little spots to escape and center myself, especially when things are hectic and crazy. Despite all the very beautiful and awesome places I've been my favorite is Dowdell's Knob in Pine Mountain, GA.
It's part of a state park that FDR set up, he used to go up there all the time to picnic, relax, think, even while president because it's soo very peaceful. he also did a lot of rehab for his Polio in the nearby town Warm Springs. Of all the places I've been it's probably the most peaceful. It's very quiet up there, dead quiet, the only things you'll hear is the wind, the cicadas depending on the time of year, and the trees rustling in the wind. It's by far the best place in GA to watch the sunset. It got a little marred a few years ago by a tornado and a few trees didn't make it but it's still great, and you probably won't notice by now unless you've been before. I loved to go up there and made a round trip of it stopping at the amazing GA aquarium first. The aquarium itself was pretty standard, really awesome mind you but I've been to a few, but the big huge 6 million gallon tank with whale sharks in it is unreal. I've been diving and didn't see half as many fish at once. I only took pictures of the aquarium on my old phone so I looked it up on youtube, to give ya'll a better idea from the main viewing spot, still doesn't do it justice you HAVE to go check it out if ya ever find yourself nearby! The coca cola museum is right next to it too, as well as the Olympic park in the middle of the city, it's a really nifty area. Then I'd go on to Pine Mtn and the knob. There's tons to do in the area including visiting the little white house that FDR stayed in and is now a museum, my grandfather loved it when I took him. I know this is my favorite spot because I went at least seven times that I can think of with my friends, all my family when they visited, by myself, and with my girlfriend. It really was a day trip, it was 7 hrs of road time driving round trip from Valdosta. There's also a bomb ass little diner the 27th Grill I think, had really good pasta and I was sold on em cause they also had my favorite kind of wine from WA, but there's all kinds of great spots around there. Great get away spot! I found it looking for places in GA to go hiking while on my second deployment, after I checked it out I kept coming back. For me it's like that movie that's just soo good you keep rewatching it, I'll be back someday I don't doubt.
It has a fantastic view and is one of the few truly elevated areas in GA, you can look out over the majority of the state it's so flat lol = ) This little grill we're sitting on was used by FDR and was filled in to preserve it for visitors. It's a nifty little piece of history.
kickin it with FDR and my favorite living fossil = )
I've finally booked my flight to my little bros wedding today. I'll be heading to the wonderful world of Aus and staying in Newcastle from the 11th-15th of June, if anyone nearby would like to catch a drink. I'll also be stopping in Singapore for a day to kick it with @almost_missed we're going to have some fun!
The gals I follow have been up to some fun stuff and I'm pretty sure I'm forgetting a fair bit (sorry been slacking = X), but what I do recall that ya'll should check out too.
@ecco finally went pink, Wooo! And is on the front page today! She also shared some more of her music with us in a little video and this bad ass picture of her pet tortoise, princess indeed!
@pebblezink has done another of her epic vlogs with pirates and adventure time awesomeness! = )
@milenci has done a sexy mini set for us Push Forward
And that's all I've got, I'm off to crash! Hope ya'll have a great rest of the week and weekend! I'll be busy again lol >.> so don't expect a lot from me. Also thanks bunches for the prayers and everything for my friend's troop, still no changes, she's still with us!
Pyrdaemon, out! ; )
