Ellen bought me a book for Christmas. Amazon just delivered it today. It's called Money, and the Law of Attraction. Reading that title, you might think it has something to do with money... and laws. You would be right, if by "laws" you meant metaphysical statements about "How the Universe IS" and by "money" you meant "spiritual and equally spooky ideas about success."
It's taken from channeled conversations with a being they call Abraham. I didn't put any of that in quotes because then I would have to explain every one of the terms that means something different in New Age vocabulary, and that would require a very long post. I'm not interested in writing one of those tonight. I just wanted to make a quick observation, and unfortunately for that quick observation to make any sense I'm already having to use more words than I'd like.
So the observation is this - this book isn't working on me. I find myself marveling at the expertise of the writer to weave commands with rhetoric, and connect physical reality to mental constructs. All of it bounces off of me though. I am not feeling what I should be feeling. I'm not being led where the author is trying to take me. The calls to breathe deeply and relax, directly and clearly stated, make me smile only because I appreciate the effect they're supposed to have on the reader.
Words seem powerless.
That's what I've noticed. Words seem transparent. Meaning seems clear. It's something I've noticed more and more over the last two or three months. Maybe because I hear less, I'm focusing more on what people do while they say what they say. Words are just sounds. At their least they're just squawks and chirps we make to signal each other that we're there, and at their best they connect us with what's going on in each other's heads. It seems more often than not words are what are used to confuse other people so we don't get caught doing what we really want to do.
Or maybe that's just the last 8 years talking.
I guess time will tell on the above statement. But I know now that I am always willing to smile and nod to the things people tell me about themselves; about who they are and what they think. Actions I believe, words... they're just noise.
And anyone or any "thing" that wants to tell me about Universal Law is going to have to offer me something better than noise.
