So here's how my week is going so far:
The co-Guild Leader, who has been my friend (to the extent that people you know strictly online can be friends) for 2 years, left the guild Monday night. He transfered to another server because we weren't "hard core" enough.
Tuesday night we discovered that 1500 platinum (the gold of Everquest 2) was missing from the guild bank. The bank logs show him taking it at 2:30pm - when he was at work.
That same evening he was meeting with guild members in his area for dinner. One of them almost punched him in the face when we called to tell them what happened. The ex-guild leader called me up to offer to fax me his time sheet, and offer his account info to search all of his characters for the money. We had already done the latter.
We contacted Sony to try and track the money down and find out what happened. It took several phone calls, and some in-game tells to GMs and developers, but we got them to take action. We're waiting to find out what the fuck happened.
Today someone leaked the news to the Everquest 2 gossip rag, and I spent most of the day answering questions from random strangers and defending someone I thought was my friend. For all I know he's a sociopath who went out of his way to disguise the robbery of video game money, but it seems unlikely to me. I've been hanging out with the guy nearly every night for 2 years now. He's earned at least a week of the benefit of the doubt.
Then about an hour ago I fell down the stairs. Thankfully it wasn't headfirst, but my tail bone is really fucking sore right now.
Yes, the last few days have been a serious pain in the ass.
