Ive been waiting a life time to leave this town.
Chewed gum, oil stains and cigarette butts line the streets of a town trapped somewhere between colonialism, Victorian England and a 20th century city made on the cheap.
Its on the move though. The lowest unemployment rate in 20 years and, Ive heard, on the verge of a new dawn. The underground will rise up, just bubbles at first. Subtly theyll float to the surface, increasing in their rapidity and number. You may not notice a ripple on the ocean but its there and its effecting you.
Its at this time I decide to leave.
A motley crew of artists, drug addicts, musicians, business men and women, religious nuts, greenies and conservatives are all my friends and acquaintances. Some of their stories I will take with me and others Ill leave behind like a box of junk, stored away until my return. Theyll be reminisced over and some of them will be thrown away and Ill wonder why I kept them in the first place.
Some of these people I detest. Some of them I love. And some of them leave me so hopelessly confused and frightened that I forget myself, if only for a moment.
