Suppose I better write a blog about my EPIC long weekend.
Thursday night I went to see Anti-Flag play in London and it was just mind blowing! The crowd was so full of energy and frantic enjoyment, I was exhausted after just a few songs but refused to rest determined to make the kmost of every song, I moshed, I sang, I crowd surfed
After they played the last song in the crowd, Pat Thetic (the drummer) stayed around shaking hands and taking photos with fans. He said he loved my vest!
This was followed on Saturday and Sunday by the UK Campaign Cup of the Millennium Series European Paintball Tournament. I played with our second team to boost it's strength however we didn't manage to win a game on Saturday due to no sideline coach resulting in me getting bunkered and bonus balled alot. (There will be a jargon key at the bottom of this blog ). With only one game to play Sunday we managed to pull off a win however it was not enough to get us out of the group stage. During the second point of this match I got shot in the neck at very close range, I ran down the field to mug their snake player, shot him first however he spun on me shooting me in the neck, he got a 141 penalty for spinning so I effectively took their last 2 players out of the game with that move.
With us out and our first team through the group stage I helped them by pit crewing for them, a team must have a 3 person pit crew at these events to be able to do well, with only 2 minutes between points (think of it like tennis, games to a set) they need people to wipe off hits, put new pods in their pack and someone to collect all the dropped pots from the field (this last position is known as the pod bitch ) They played their arses off but a lack of fitness showed and they got knocked out in the Semi-final and lost the 3rd place play-off. The 3rd place play-off was intense though, 3-2 down with only 13 seconds of game time left on the clock our only option was run straight down the field shooting and hope to get lucky, the team made a brave effort but these moves almost never work.
Paintball Jargon:
Sideline Coach - A team is allowed a coach outside the netting on the snakeside to help their team
Bunkered/Mugged When a player runs past an opposing players position shooting them as they run past, usually at very close range
Bonus Balling To shoot a player after he has already been shot out and is leaving field
Spin When a player after getting bunkered turns and shoots the player back, this is usually simply them reacting to slow to the player bunkering them.
141 A type of penalty in paintball used when a player plays on after being hit, the ref will remove that player and one of their teamates from the game, if the penalised player is the last man standing then the team will start the next point a man down.
