My man mattsme and I travel a lot for our jobs. We were up in Portland/Seattle/Vancouver a few months ago and loved it! Southern CA is the bomb so you might have a culture shock, but it's still a great place to be.
Bainbridge Island is a great place to take the ferry over for wilderness/camping. Fremont is north of Seattle proper and is where all the funky artsy folk go. Portland is a cool, artsy, laid back city (Visit Rogue Ales on Flanders for the best beer ever) and Vancouver is hellof fun if you don't mind the security checkpoint crap.
Take care, gotta go on my roadtrip around Fl for a week!
