So here's my recap of No Brand Con.
On Thursday, I drove to the Minneapolis airport to pick up Michael "Mookie" Terracciano, the webcomic artist. He does Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire. He's a pretty cool guy, it's too bad he was tired and ended up falling asleep in the car about a hour into the ride. So I did talk to him for about 30 minutes. Friday I wasn't scheduled for many hours, so I went to my friend Nick's panel about Gundam and chatted with old friends. I was dressed as a wizard for most of the time and kept getting WIZZZARRD jokes.
(I was asked to remove my wizard hat because I look like a character from their online novel.)
I helped out with the MANN Auction by entering myself.
(MANN Auction is an auction where the highest bidder wins a date with you. The proceeds went to the Red Cross.) After getting topless and singing Now You're A Man, I was able to raise $53. Not bad, but 3 other guys made more than me. (One of them I knew would, but the other two... I just guess they had odd taste?) The girl that won me was good looking and 20 something, so that in itself made up for it. I arranged the details of our "date" and went back to hanging out with friends. So Saturday I got to the con around noon and met my "date" for lunch.
(The girl to my right throwing the peace sign. I like her little hat.) So after that, I had to work Video Game Room security and then I helped with the Cosplay Contest. There were a lot of good entries and it went really well. My friend Frank took pictures for Volume One (free local zine) and here's a link to his flickr page.

After the Cosplay Contest ended, I helped get everything moved out of the way for the dance. I usually don't go to dances, but was obliged to as part of the "date". I still had fun with it since I was dancing with a group of 3-4 girls, at the same time.
(Yes, that is a Pikachu shirt I made sleeveless.) After the dance ended, I got to help out with the Rockband tournament. I played bass for the staff band to "demo" what was going to happen. (I really suck at the game and never play it.) So I had like a 69% on hard for some song by Cheap Trick. I do a better job at judging Rockband entries, since I'm in a band and have seen a decent amount of shows.
After we awarded the winners, I ate the rest of my sandwich and helped clean up the trash on the floor. Sunday everyone wanted me to cosplay as Osaka, but I'm saving that one until Daisho Con. So I went with Doraemon.
That's me with my friend Nick. (He's cosplaying Ed from Full Metal Alchemist.)
I hung around and saw the variety show which was decent. I got to see Dr. Cancer and the Skambies which I missed Friday, because I was playing Mahjong. After listening to a couple songs, I had to show the people how to dance.
We had closing ceremonies and told everyone to come back in 2011. Then the con ended. We had to pack up all the tvs and get all the stuff out of the hotel and back to storage. After that was over, we all headed to Great Wall Buffet and ate a bunch of Chinese food and talked. I ended up going back to the hotel to swap my not so great Dreamcast with a different one that another staffer had. I stayed and helped Chief's crew pack up his video game equipment.
That's Chief behind the pile. (He broke his ankle at the con when he fell down the stairs.) By the time I got home, I was tired and sore. I smoked a pinch, brushed my teeth and went to bed. At the meeting Thursday, I got nominated for 3 different things for No Brand due to my hard work. We'll see if I actually get elected for them next Thursday. Wish me luck!
