Wow it feels like I have been in another planet for the last week. For those of you who don't know I embarked on a week long odyssey to help a friend move to California. I obviously have returned. We started last saturday from the humble town of Pottsville, PA and drove to Pittsbrugh and stayed with a friend overnight in order to wake up early the next morning and hit the ground running. And that we did. From Pittsburgh we drove all day until we hit some bumblefuck town in Oklahoma. *Sidenote: One of the things that allured me into going on this trip was getting to see some of the country that I have never seen before. I would have been better off not going, the route we took from Pitt to Oklahoma consisted of nothing but cornfields and cows. With that said, you cannot blame me for excessively abusing prescription pain killers throughout the trip. After staying in a motel that should have been in a B horror film we awoke and continued our trek to our next destination. After another long and dull drive into New Mexico, again abusing Vicodin we shacked up in an equally shitful motel. This time I found the clip to a hand gun underneath the sheets of my bed along with some creepy looking bugs. This made me spend the night huddled on the faux plastic chair in the corner of the room. At this point I had enough of the open road and needed to get to Cali as soon as possible... After awaking in the dismal motel we set out for our final destination. With wonderful visions of booze and blondes in my head, California seemed so close. I couldn't of been more wrong, the last leg of the trip seemed like the longest. New Mexico. Arizona.and California. It might as well been the fuckin Sahara desert. There literally wasn't a thing in sight for miles. I felt like I was in a fuckin mirage. Despite that little downfall the landscape was rather beautiful. All the eroded red rock and such... My spirits were already trampled so I really couldn't enjoy them as much as I would have liked.
Finallly we get to his place in Hermosa Beach. One little pit fall, we didn;t have the keys to the apartment. We had to wait for the landlord to come and let us in. Fuck me. After we got all settled in, things as you might expect only got worse. There was no furniture. No water. No electricity. The $3000 a month apartment might as well been a fuckin shoe box. The next few days are addled in the memory banks so I'm just going to sum up some of the things I did enjoy while in California.
Scoooby's, Pacific Ocean, California weather in October, skateboards, beers, Scooobys, In and Out burger, Bulldogs, prescription drugs, the pier, plane rides, airports, sleeping in closets, sleeping on hardwood floors, awkwardness, Manhattan Beach, target, did i mention Scoobys, and finalllly the attitude.
Needless to say the trip had it's downfalls what adventure dosent. All in all I'm glad I went. I will be returning to Hermosa Beach sometime in December, I'm rather excited.
There's no place like home.
