Nerd-tacular! I finally have my ideal network setup at home: a Cisco 1720 router and a Cisco 1548 micro-switch. Im building an access list to block advertisers web servers from delivering content to my network, as well as reading up on Ciscos firewall feature sets so I can construct my virtual bastion of defense. All for fun, of course. Theres no practical purpose behind it Im simply a geek.
Im thinking about building another bass. I have all the materials priced out, and I plan to build it entirely myself, with zero outside help beyond the final setup and intonation, and (maybe) the bodys finish. Im going to drop a couple hundred bucks on a hand router and some bits; Im not sure if I want to drop another several hundred on a small compressor and a paint gun setup. In all, I think I can pull it off for about $600. On the other hand, Ive also been thinking about building a guitar, too. Looking at the overall cost, though, itll be a lot more than building the precision bass Im working on in my head.
Im picturing something like this:
Im definitely into the idea of some kind of hand-rubbed oil finish, something dark. Rather than the maple fretless neck, itd have to be rosewood and fretted. I suppose I could go for a lined fretless. Thats definitely an entertaining idea. However (and Im not expect), Im thinking that would create a warmer almost duller sound than what Im looking for. Im not into soothing warmth from a bass at this point. I want punch and growl. I want a bass to kick you in the face and then fuck your mom for sport.
Since I have the first bass I built back, I discovered that I didnt do the best finish job on the body. I might disassemble the thing, strip the finish and start over. I need to install a different string retainer on the head; the A string doesnt have enough break angle. I never fixed it.
Now Im rambling and no one is interested.
Heading home this Wednesday for a week. I cant wait to spend some time at home, relax, grab a frosted lemon sugar cookie from Cookie Cutters at the mall. Yum. Im also excited to see a certain someone. I might try to meet up with Natasha while Im there, too, if shes still in town and up for it.
Oh! I bought a Nokia 6101 last week. It's neat.
I think Im done.

Hey, you like the living end... good to see the aussie boys garnering an international following. I'm going to see them on boxing day, in a town called Mandurah where lots of old people live, and the old people are going to get very annoyed. Unfortunately I was too poor to see them last week with Motley Crue and Motorhead, which would have ruled.
