Okay, I had an absolutely surreal experience last night..
Imagine you wake up like that fella in 28 days later... only it is night time and there is a thick blanket of fog all around.. You can't see 15 metres in front of you, let alone people.. You can hear people, but you can't be sure anybody is actually there..
I'd spent the evening working on the novel and film schedule downstairs, pretty mundane stuff.. I headed upstairs to bed at about 3:40am..
Through the windows I could see that a thick blanket of fog over the street.. I threw some shoes on and headed to the beach.. Couldn't see more than 15 metres in front of me.. There was zero visibility..
Went down to the beach and an african american guy passed me, oblivious.. He looked liked a zombie with his senses removed.. Went down to the sand and stood at the edge of the water, looking into an absolute abyss..
After a moment I stripped down to my boxers and dove in..
Possession might not be the right word to describe it, but it's the first word that comes to mind..
Then I started getting quite afraid, hearing people far off in the fog.. The ocean too seemed to envelope me so I bailed out..
Went to wash the sand off at one of the public showers and there were sarongs and kid's sandals scattered around.. It was all a bit worrying..
Headed back to my place via the golf course which overlooks the ocean and approaching the edge I could see no horizon line.. The clouds and the fog had melted together and I was staring into the void..
A really haunting and incredible experience..
