do you remember when as a child you were genuinely scared watching horror movies...that you would cover your eyes and face with your hands, and peak at the screen through the cracks in your fingers, or through the holes in the blanket? that you couldnt bear to look, but couldnt bear to look away? so you only saw glimpses of what was really going on?
do you remember when you were afraid of the dark, and when you'd come up the basement stairs, you'd turn the light off, and you could just feel the terror creeping up on your backside...but you were too afraid to turn to look, your neck frozen in paralysis, in fear of what you might see?
do you remember what it was like, that feeling of discomfort and pain, when your doctor looks at you, and you already know, but cant bear to hear it said aloud, because as soon as the doctor says it, it becomes true?
do you remember that rush of feeling, of sensation,a cheap thrill, and then of extreme sadness and loneliness?
do you remember the single minded focus and attention of love, beaming like a laser, boring through your heart, blinding your eyes and capturing your mind and soul? how you used to sigh, bursting with contentment?
do you remember how this story ends? the one where the bitter taste of sadness is poison, or the one where you lose yourself and drunk off happiness, gulping down thirstily the elixir of life?
the daylight shines a little bit longer, the midnight sky is just a little bit clearer, and when you remember all these, will your memories be like yesterday's earthquake or today's tides?
in the most unlikely places i was reminded of modern day slavery - no, not modern day, but archaic slavery masked for the modern times. human traffic is far too ignored. try to think about who makes your tennis shoe.
who will stop aids?
what will cure cancer?
when will poverty and hunger end?
who and what will save us now?
