Ooooh... new profile picture! That was taken in our hotel room in Toronto during our celebration of Faye's birthday.
Eeesh. Last week was the longest week ever. Thank god it's over.
I've been battling a crummy cold for almost 3 weeks now. Last Monday morning, after a weekend of doing nothing because I had no energy, I woke up feeling pretty crummy. I went into work and almost immediately, I started feeling awful. Light-headed, nauseous, weak... I was making stupid mistakes while doing the easiest tasks. About 2.5 hours into my shift, during my first break, I decided I needed to get out of there and go to the clinic. Doctor checked me out and said I was suffering from a bad chest cold. He prescribed some antibiotics and sent me on my way.
Tuesday morning, I wake up to go to my dentist for what she said would just be a filling. After she starts drilling, she realizes the damage is worse than she thought and that I need a root canal. No sweat, I've had a couple before, so it's no big deal. Plus I have great dental insurance from work, so I don't pay a penny. Except in this case, because the tooth is opened up and bleeding, I need it done ASAP. Because of which tooth it was and the condition it was in, I had to be referred to a specialist for an emergency root canal. And of course, the specialist isn't capable of charging my insurance company directly, so I have to pay up front and submit a claim. Damn.
My dentist makes the appointment with the endodontologist for that afternoon, gives me a temporary filling, prescribes some pain killers and then I head home for a nap before getting the root canal done. As I'm getting the root canal treatment done, I'm worrying hardcore about how I'm going to pay for it. Payday wasn't for another 2 days and I only had $400 to my name until then, $200 of which was actually to get Faye's kitten fixed. Plus most of that pay needed to go towards rent. Since the treatment would take two appointments, they told me I could pay part now and part later. Luckily, they only took $200 up front, and scheduled my next appointment on 10/12, so I have two paychecks in between to raise the cash. The whole thing ended up costing $875, for about 90 minutes of work. I think I want to be an endodontologist!
Wednesday was incredibly busy at work, so that sucked. And then Thursday and Friday, I volunteered to do some overtime and did 11 hour shifts on both days. Needless to say, at the end of Friday, I was worn out. But I didn't even get to relax on the weekend! Apparently, everyone I know was born in Septmber (my girlfriend, my mom, my dad, my step-sister, my grandfather and a couple of family friends).
Saturday, I spent the day at my step-sister's sweet 16. Helped set up, clean up and do various tasks. There were over 40 people there. The food was great and my best friend DJ'd the party. After the party, my brother was driving me, my friend and his girlfriend home. Right at the bottom of my street, the cops pull him over. The run the plates on my dad's van, and lo and behold, my dad forgot to renew the plates. So my brother gets slapped with a $430 ticket and they impound his car on the spot. Fuckin' lame.
Sunday was probably my slowest day last week, however I still didn't get it all to myself. My mom and her step-father had a joint birthday party at her place. There was only a dozen people, so it was definetly nowhere near as hectic as the previous day.
So all in all, that was a hell of a week. This week is shaping up to be better, though. It's "Customer Service Week" so we're getting free goodies all week. I got an extra 20 minute break today so I could be served a nice breakfast buffet. Plus, Faye and her brother are coming home this weekend, so I finally get to see her again after three long weeks. Sweet.
Hope everyone else has a great week!
