I woke up this morning to a random phone call from a random friend (we haven't hung out together in ages). She had an extra ticket to see the Dalai Lama. She said she thought of me because I appreciate that kind of event. I didn't even know he was in town! So off we went and it was fantastic! Our seats were pretty good, (middle, first level of the Ottawa Senators hockey arena).
I was incredibly humbled by the whole experience. There were dancers and performers from Tibet, and then His Holiness spoke for about 2 hours.
He came on stage, said a prayer, then sat down on a Lazyboy-ish chair set up on stage. He asked everyone to be patient with Him while He got comfortable, taking off His shoes and adjusting His robes. (i'm gonna stop putting his name in caps now because it's getting a little annoying)
When he came on stage everyone cheered and gave a stading ovation. I was startled that I was so touched and emotional when I saw him. Tears came down my face. He just oozes calmness, love and devotion.
He talked about the war, how he loves George Bush as a person but does not agree with him. How people should love one another even though they do not agree with each other. We should be peacefull. We should be kind. We should be thankfull. He spoke about his life and his thoughts on religion, war, global warming.. everything! He's also a very funny man, keeping everyone entertained during his entire two hour talk.
It was the best afternoon I've had in quite awhile. I feel so calm... and very glad I was able to go.
