I made it out ok.
I don't know where to start.
I'm in Houston, TX.
We drove out on wednesday.
The crew that was working the forklift was parking the forklift in eyeshot of my house. There was a crew of about 6-8 of them.
All were armed. I didn't feel like I could keep everyone safe anymore and so it was time to go.
We honestly didn't think we would get out.
We packed the dogs and the laptops some clothes and headed out.
We left the cats.
It was a hard decision to leave the cats. They were the reason we stayed so long to begin with. But if we took them and were carjacked or killed or ran out of gas in a long traffic line....
They would have wound up being let out in a strange neighborhood with NO food and water.
So we dumped a bucket of food on the kitchen floor and I cut holes in the screens so they could come and go in case looters scared them or water rose (we were still dry on wednesday in the highest point of the city 6 ft. above sea level). Or if they needed to forage for food.
At least they would know where to return.
I dunno.
I've been kinda fried.
We're with two other friends in Houston.
We have places to stay for the long term, they do not.
We're trying to work out something for them but it's hard. They have an elderly dog who can't work stairs and they aren't able to carry him because of his size. It sucks because I feel like beggars can't be choosers but these girls saved our asses.
They called us almost every half hour during and after the storm.
They finally added to my decision that if we were going to leave that we had to go immediately and not wait for word on routes or any other bullshit.
They say they didn't do shit but, I know otherwise.
If anyone hears from any of the SGs in Louisiana or wherever that may need help in Houston or anywhere else for that matter let me know. I'll try to do whatever I can.
I don't know what else to say.
I'm tapped.
I have some shitty video and some audio I recorded in my bathroom on the laptop during the storm.
If anyone is interested in my phone # use the contact on the left and let me know who you are and I'll get it to you asap.
I love you all and hope you are all safe and happy.
