I suppose I will make my return to posting and the SG world with a rant on Canada. Yes, the pressure has been building. A quick disclaimer: Some Canadian's are very cool and the mountains would kick more ass if I could actually afford to get to them (4 hours away and close to $4USD for a gallon of gas kills).

hmm... you said updating, when I first read it, I thought it said dating. oops. (this is not a shmoozy comment, but my thoughts, dating or updating issues asside)
I've not been around much but always take the time to catch up on your journals. Thank you for writing things that are worth reading. It's wonderful to find someone with insight. Thanks for not being a sheep.

Teaching is taking up all of my time. I probably don't need to take as much time as I do to prep my lectures, but I have this fear of running out of shit to say... but, I usually end up with three times what I need. I gave them their first quiz last week, and of course I get the usual "I didn't expect...

Most people in school today have no real desire to actually learn.
Indeed.
We need to start directing more folks to vo-tec type schools which are better suited for many.
yesyesyes!
HomeGrown is the fucking best

I start teaching my anthropology of health and healing class (introduction to medical anthropology) tomorrow! It is my chance to shape and corrupt the minds of future doctors and nurses. Other than introduction stuff, our first major topic is a critique of biomedicine. Yum!

The mosquitos are usually no problem.
It was the blood sucking flying fleas that killed us.
See my journal..........................
Man I wish I could attend your classes.
University/College was a disaster for me.
All six of them.
You and hemlock make me feel like a barbarian sometimes but I loves ya anyways.

When one gets old, I have decided that it is best to celebrate one's birthday the day before, rather than the day of.
On an unrelated note: Last weekend while backpacking in the rain and mosquitoes, I took pleasure in watching a red squirrel make a feast out of a fresh rabbit corpse (it was recently killed by a lynx and still had some choice...

Right you hate the south, but you are drinking a little Soco and JD's Lynchburg Lemonade.
My paternal family hails from Tennessee and Kentucky (respectively), whereas my maternal side is mostly French (origins, approximately, three generations back). So, i hate the south more for the stupid accents than for anything. So, yeah, i was drinking whatever was on hand... cos my friends drink SoCo, and i'm a pussy that drinks a variety of fruity drinks (wine coolers, Zima, etc.).
i dunno why i feel the need to justify myself, but there it is
Yep, that is a fucking Mo-Bile home made into a rocket ship. Blast me out of this trailer park baby!
bwa-haha

This past week I rediscovered how much I fucking love cereal. Sometimes it's what motivates me to get up in the morning.

i totally went thru a phase where it was Grape Nuts and Coco Pebbles mixed, yo.

Right on Frankenberry fans! (Booberry is a good choice too) And life would just be less fun without cereal.
Thank you for appreciating my herb photos.

Finished The Fall by Camus. It illustrates that much of what people do is influenced by greed and power; much of our lives are centered on self-motivation. It is short and worth a read.

I've also heard that the 30s are the new 20s. What the hell does that mean, anyway?

i'll check it out, but i have a feeling it'll just piss me off...like most things i read.
Today: I was supposed to get a good portion of a writing project done... it just didn't happen. Excessively depressing out, as it was 50 degrees and rained all day long. Coffee and Tea didn't even help. Living this far north is getting on my nerves.
Tonight: Beer, some more beer, telling good stories about my Redneck family members in the South, and a realization...

If you get a chance, I highly recommend Kurosawas movie Ikiru (translates To Live) (1952). It is an existential masterpiece. It is all about affirming life through the confrontation of death. The movie follows an aging man who finds that he has stomach cancer and is forced to strip the veneer from his existence and find meaning in his final few months. Additionally, parts of...

might i suggest a lil film called "Cheech and Chong: Up In Smoke?" it'sa spiffy lil film about two guys getting high and heading to a battle of the bands. what it lacks in timeless war metaphors and existentialism it more than makes up in dick jokes.

I had hoped it would be a little creepy.
