Seas of Glass.
In my most waking, vivid dreams, i always see the sands...
I've taken many road trips through our own American Southwest, and i've seen the various types of desert that our country has to offer, where it be scrub and gravel and barren, tiny stones, or dunes as far as he eyes can see.
I've always been fascinated by the desert. The climate is as harsh as can be found in the entire world, but yet life thrives and persists.
Someday, i'd like to find myself living on a piece of property in the deep desert, far from all human contact (mind you, i'm an uber-geek, so make no mistake, i have a list of technological things that i would have with me, so i'd really be as close to human contact as i'd want at any given moment), far from the violence and hypocrisy of our country, where i might be able to become 'carbon neutral', and 'self sustaining' and all of those other words that have become so trendy to drop when someone is talking about environmental issues.
I do care about how our species is effecting our planet, but i think that most people have the wrong idea about all of it. they think that doing their part will help, they think that by simply recycling or becoming 'carbon-neutral' is going to make a huge bit of difference...
I'll admit, i'm a dreamer, and i've many times referred to myself as a 'visionary', but only because i have ideas that arent the normal, but are ones that i think are fantastic outlooks on life and everything. When it comes to our state of technology and our ability as a species to better effect our planet, we let too many of our desires corrupt our passions. There have been breakthrough technologies over the last 150 years that would have truly helped our world develop into what we'd call 'The World of Tomorrow', but these ideas and concepts have been blocked and even destroyed by those who would like to 'make a quick buck'. I just suppose the concept of greed escapes me.
Instinct tells us to do three basic things: Feed, Fuck, and Fight.
To Feed is to sustain yourself.
To Fuck is to procreate and continue your line.
To Fight is to protect your resources so that you have the ability to do the prior two.
These are the concepts that we all live by.
In regards to technology, people have been caught up with the 'Fight' aspect, since we no longer have to worry about sustaining ourselves, and since we can all find a sexual partner in one way or another. The Fight aspect tells us to make the most resources we can in our lifetimes... strive for riches, whoever dies with the most wins. Very few of us see the big picture... very few of us can see pas our own nose. We're all too concerned about our own personal well-being.
The point is that we must look at everything with a much broader scope, and if we dont, we're going to burn this place to the ground.
And all that will be left are the deserts.
I want to run, I want to hide. I want to remove myself from this madness, and wait. There will be a time when the masses wake up, when they see what they've ignored and let happen. When this happens, i hope i'm ready.
